"Finishing Touch Landscaping exceeded all my expectations! Our property had a problem of water runoff causing serious soil erosion that required some excavation, installation of an extended drainage system, installation of railroad ties, topsoil and regrading. The cost estimate was very competitive with other local landscapers and all work was done in a very professional manner. Frank Davis is more than just a landscaper; he is an experienced problem-solver and came up with suggestions that added value to the project without exceeding the budget. He has experienced workmen and makes it his business to supervise the project in person."

"11/2015  GRADE D <br /> Davey Tree makes a good initial presentation and was glad to take $1000-2000 in each of <br /> the last 2 years to put in landscaping for me.  Initially I was pleased, however, I hired them to both install the <br /> landscaping and do maintenance.  They apparently don't like doing maintenance as much, at least in St. Louis.  We would agree on a plan and the local <br /> contact - Tom Broshears told me they'll call to schedule the work.  They NEVER called, so I always had  to call him multiple times to get the work actually done.  This was our pattern for 2 years.  The last time which was supposed to be September, they never came.  They were supposed to put in more ground cover in the front yard, and do other work, and that was never done.  They keep sending me bills for work not done.  I am not paying for work that was not done. <br /> This is the gist of what I put in a letter with my last payment (of $360) 3000 to Davey Tree as I called Tom Broshears, the local arborist/manager and fired Davey Tree over a month ago.  I need a landscaping/maintenance company that will do what they promised.  <br /> I found you originally on Angie's list and will be copying this feedback to them as well, as they deserve to know the truth about Davey Tree. <br /> <br /> Updated 12/15/15  -- GrADE C+ <br /> Boy I'm glad I wrote this review. Davey Tree's national office told the local manager to call me and they have now bent over backwards to address the unfinished work and to regain my business. They replaced a couple trees in my courtyard that weren't dead but looked terrible (and had been recommended by the prior Davey contact), and helped remove some hard to reach dangerous broken tree limbs. I'm impressed enough that I'm going to give them another chance.  I changed my grade to C+ based on their efforts and apparent intent to be more responsive and better on follow up.  If they really do what they commit to do with me, in 6-12 months I'll write another review. <br /> <br /> I encourage Angie's list subscribers to write reviews about problems as soon as possible as vendors really do look at these and value their rating here.  I wish I did so sooner. <br />"

"Barb first came out to talk about what I'd like done. She is the Landscape Designer and is great. Took my vision and walked me through her ideas too and drew up a detailed design plan. This is not free, which I knew out of the gate and they told me ahead of time. But if you hire Sundown you get part of the design fee back on the final bill. Her drawings promptly came and we walked through them again. Unfortunately, the weather turned cold before they could get started but they kept me up-to-date throughout the process. I got a call towards the end of January when we had a stretch of warmer weather and they wanted to remove the old landscaping and install the edging and lighting to take advantage of the weather. They arrived exactly when they said. Jeff was the foreman and was a pleasure to work with. I've never seen such a large crew working on just one house. They were done in 3 days and cleaned everything up exactly like I hoped. Even sprayed any mud and debris off the street. Then the weather turned cold again and we waited to plant. However, even with no plants I had so many people tell me how much they loved the edging and lighting. The lighting made such a big difference all around my home. When the mailman stops and tells you how much he loved the edging, you know it must look nice! In addition, they secure the edging with cement so there won't be the problem of stones moving like you can frequently see. Dave, the owner, and Barb kept me updated on a time frame of planting. We had a cold Spring so the plants just got planted the beginning of May. Dave, who is also great to work with, goes out and personally picks out the plants and trees and he seems to be very particular about what he chooses. Again, a large crew arrived when they said and did a great job of cleaning up. Everything looks great!! I had a large job and I knew it would be expensive. Sundown may be more expensive than other landscape companies but in this case I think it was well worth it. Also, I was able to use the Angie's List coupon. Angie's List is how I found out about Sundown Landscaping. I am going to have them come back in the Fall and plant an additional tree in my backyard and I will set them up to do maintenance on my beds and plants."

"<p>Basile cut my lawn every week.  They were prompt, dependable and always did an excellent job with all trimmings cleaned up.  If for some reason I needed them to skip a week (new grass) it was easy to just send an email and the schedule was immediately adjusted with consistent communication about the change.  </p> <p>I also had them install metal edging on two garden beds. Installation was clean, secure and as planned.  (I laid out the string as a guide.)  I was disappointed that on this job, while the edging was installed properly, there was no attempt to clear the surface of grass within the edging.  For the $400, they did what I would consider the minimum necessary to complete it.....but I had to go back later and finish the surrounding area.</p> <p>I will use their service again next summer for the lawn.  Good response and customer service attitude from everyone in the company.  </p> . <br />"

"In one of those rare cases of perfect timing, a few days after I subscribed to Angie's List their Big Deal was 48" granite countertop replacement for $349.  I was in the process of getting bids from other contractors for a 48" granite wet bar top replacement, the first of which had just come in obscenely high, so it was a no-brainer to take advantage of this Big Deal. <br /> <br /> The first step was to set up an appointment to take measurements, a few days after which we went to look at the stone samples at Solid Surface Resources.  The one we liked most was a few inches too small so we went with our second choice.  I think the Big Deal offer was meant for a bathroom vanity but they were flexible in making it work for a bar install. Installation was quick and painless, though I had to remove the old bartop / sink (due to the deal terms) and, post-install, redo the plumbing because it interfered with the sink. <br /> <br /> End result - it's awesome!  Their work was first-rate and their communication and follow-through was appreciated."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Eureka, MO

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
