"Patrick came the same day we called him, worked hard to open up our clogged sewer and when snaking didn't fix it explained our options in a clear and professional manner. He and his crew were punctual, cleaned up after themselves and did good work. We enjoyed working with Patrick and feel we got a good deal considering everything that needed to be done. When it became clear that we had a serious problem, he quoted us one price for the digging and new clean-out installation and didn't charge us for the initial snake and scope services. He also got the inspector to recommend fixing the sewer under the street, and that was accomplished in a timely manner since a new water main had just been installed on our street and the paving hadn't been completed. We can now feel confident our AirBnB guests will no longer have any plumbing issues!"

"I have been dealing with sewer smell, sewer back-up, and rats in my basement for many months without much progress after multiple contractors and plumbers. I began the screening process again and found Tim to listen and problem-solve better than any other professional. He expertise really came through at multiple stages of the project. During his camera scope he identified problems not previously picked up. During the repair phase he talked me through the process and was very thorough and organized in his work. During final phase, he came back to hydrojet and rod the entire sewer system out to the city line, provided additional repairs to broken waters lines and gaps in the concrete floor. In the end, Tim did a major repair digging out our front yard to access and repair the sewer line. The majority of the smell has dissipated and, for the first time, I have some peace of mind."

"The mainline was rodded to the street, and the dishwasher now works properly, because before that the backup was flowing into the basement. Flomaxx completed the pump change, even though they desperately tried to save the prior pump from having to be taken out, I insisted that they change it because the leak had been going for over 6 months, after having the original plumber come back twice, and he had not resolved this issue. Flomaxx also discovered a leak in the toiled attached to the pump, and changed that with a toilet that I provided, and gave me a solution for another small laundry tub sink, that I was able to go get the part from Menards, and change myself."

"It was 10am during the week between Christmas and New Years day. My main water valve inside the house was stuck in the off position so I had no water for toilets, sinks.... Chris from the company made it out to my house in advance of the Noon appointment and worked with the village (the village has to turn on\off the water from outside to my house) to get the repair completed within 2.5 hours, which was amazing. The price charged I thought was very fair given that I needed emergency service during the holiday season when availability of service is constrained. I would definitely hire this company again and could not have been happier with my experience."

"I always contact Vanguard Plumbing when I want the job done right. Jan and his team are reliable and professional. They are also easy to work with. I will email Jan a picture of the problem, and he will usually get back to me with an estimate within the day. I have used them for about 6 jobs so far and every time I have been pleased. Not only are things fixed and working when they leave, they go above and beyond to make sure the job is done properly and to code. No "quick fix" or cutting corners. I also trust them to work my home when I am not there. I have had them repair sewer pipes, bathroom sinks, showers faucets, kitchen faucets, as well as install water filtration systems. I know that whenever I am hiring Jan, the money I spend is adding value in to our house because Vanguard's work will last."

"Pablo and his coworker arrived on time. They took pictures of the work being done such as excavating a hole in the ground, removing an existing broken clay pipe as well as replacing it. They proceeded then to reconnect the new clay pipe to a new 4” cast iron pipe and so on. They then backfilled the opening on the ground once the repair had been completed. I couldn’t be happier with the work they did. This job was done right and the price I paid for was a bargain compared to how much another company wanted to charge me for the same job PSP did. I would hire them again. I recommend PSP Plumbing and Sewer to anyone needing plumbing services at reasonable prices."

"Tim promptly reached out and set up an estimate appt for replacing my sump pump system. Was very informative and explained the recommended job details well and clearly. Seemed fairly priced compared to other quotes. Was on time for install appt, explained the system and showed me the sensors/light functions. Exceeded expectations. Would recommend Tim/Drains Inc to family and friends."

"They cleaned out catch basin, repaired it (one of the bricks fell out) and tuckpointed it. Also scoped my sewer line. My home was built in 1910. Able was very responsive and professional. Their competitors never even returned my phone calls. I’d definitely hire them again."

FAQs for sewer main install, replace or repair projects in Evanston, IL

When installing a sewer line, you should consider extra costs like tree removal, driveway repairs, or patio resurfacing. Hiring a professional plumber is essential, and you may need additional specialists if landscaping or heavy excavation is involved. Addressing these potential extras up front helps ensure accurate budgeting and prevents sudden cost overruns.

To calculate the length of sewer piping you need, measure the distance from your house to the main sewer line, adding the depth of the city main to this distance. Be sure to account for any obstacles like tree roots or utility lines that may require additional piping.

City sewer lines are installed at a lower elevation to prevent unwanted backflow and water damage. This lower positioning ensures enhanced performance and long-term safety, meeting all technical and safety standards.

With trenchless methods, a plumber inserts a smaller pipe within the existing plumbing, avoiding full excavation. It can be more cost-effective and less disruptive than traditional methods, but it's not suitable for all homes.

Yes, you must secure permission from your local water authority before connecting to a public sewer line. This approval ensures your connection meets all regulatory requirements.

Sewer lines are buried between 18 inches and 8 feet deep, with most systems placed between 18 and 30 inches. In colder regions, pipes are set deeper to remain below the frost line.
