"Hall’s did an excellent job of trimming all the shrubbery, removing all the English ivy while keep the other ground cover, then mulching the beds. My yard looks better than it has in years. I will use them again as needed."

"We were so impressed with the kitchen counters and island from ten years ago that we went out of our way to have Dominion Granite install the marble counter tops for our bathroom renovation. Christian and his team were extremely professional and informative the first time, and were just as professional and informative during the most recent installation. They have vast and amazing options on site to select your granite or marble. Meticulous installation with perfect lines and cut-outs. High quality on trend porcelain sinks are also available from Dominion Granite. Their office is urban chic and inviting showroom with amazing slabs in their adjacent warehouse and cutting area. Most highly recommended."

"I cannot say enough good things about Green Lady Masonry! Deborah was absolutely wonderful to work with. She is extremely kind, thoughtful and super responsive. She, Gerardo, and the crew all worked so hard! I had contacted multiple businesses over the years for help with our sloped yard and drainage issues and nobody seemed up to the task. Green Lady Masonry came in, and immediately gave me a great solution and at a great price! They came when they said they would and worked from early in the morning until late in the evening. Gerardo was so nice and every crew member was extremely kind to me and my family! They did such a fantastic job! It has changed the way my kids will play. Before we were not using our yard at all and now I am so excited for my kids to play! The walls are beautiful! Many neighbors watched this happen because we are right on the walking path and I got many comments about how nice of a job they were doing! I highly recommend Green Lady Masonry! Thank you!"

"When a leak in our upstairs bathroom threw a curveball our Memorial Day weekend, we decided to turn lemons into lemonade and remodel! We got several quotes and decided on Virginia Kitchen and Bath because they had beautiful, luxury-level results at our price point and did not sacrifice quality. It was a great choice! The design process with Burak was smooth from start to finish. He had the perfect balance of expertise and willingness to incorporate our ideas. I didn’t feel steered into a cookie cutter remodel. I felt like I had an experienced guide who knew what worked based on years of working in our community. Once we got started, Emin was professional and responsive. We always knew what was happening with our project, and when we had questions the answers were only a text away. Our day to day team, headed by Angel, were clearly the best in the business. They worked hard through the whole contract, often stopping to get our opinions to make sure everything was just right. The result speaks for itself. Our once dated bathroom with a broken toilet is now our serene oasis. The whole team at Virginia Kitchen and Bath made what could have been a tough summer easy!"

"It went wonderfully! I contacted Nathan directly (not via Angie's List) because he has powerwashed my home and powerwashed/stained my deck in previous years -- so I knew how to reach him. I recently installed a new fence a few months ago and needed it to be stained. Nathan's email replies were always quick and professional, and once he provided an estimate, I hired him. He scheduled the date but I told him I was okay with an earlier job -- and he did so as soon as his schedule allowed! the job was extremely professional and quickly done. My neighbor watched the staining process as I was away from home -- he was quite impressed. I would hire him again!"

"Ben, Connor, and the entire Independence Landscape Team are absolute masters at their craft and some of the most professional, responsive individuals I’ve ever worked on a project with. The job included designing/redoing our frontyard bed, installing downspouts, building a 330 square foot backyard patio bordered by a dry creek, installing natural stone steps leading up to the patio, and designing/executing new backyard landscape beds. Our backyard - which is on a slope and not a huge space to begin with - looks out onto a shared driveway. Given that, my wife and I struggled with how to create a sense of privacy in our backyard without having a fence installed. Of all the professionals we met with initially, Ben, our Project Manager and Connor, who did a lot of the design work, had the clearest vision of how to get it done. Both were mindful and in tune with what was important to my wife and I. Both were creative in working within the parameters of our space to deliver what is in my opinion, the very best job that anyone could have done. Big credit to the the teams that came out and did the work as well, Cheto included. The results are stunning and my wife and I couldn’t be happier."

"Wonderful work, very professional, and cost competitive company. 3-years later no issues. Kevin and his team came in to put a nice flagstone staff 8x45 ft patio in next to our house to replace the grass. It was completed quickly and when there was a minor issue that cropped up within 4-months due to bad stones from the quarry, they came back to replace asap. 100% confidence and would hire again. Thanks guys!"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Fairfax, VA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
