"My husband and I wanted a driveway. We priced concrete and settled with gravel when we moved into our house. A year later, we set a budget off no knowledge beyond what others said they paid, a hunch. Our asphalt driveway looks phenomenal. T&T came in under budget, even with a little extra work. They did a fantastic job. Their employees were in high spirits, everyone was happy and kind, even on a 90+ degree day. We got exactly what we wanted, and they thanked us for the work, not the money. This is a genuine, generational family business. I canâ t recommend them enough."

"Jarrod was hired to do a massive land clearing job of over 15 acres worth of heavily wooded land, He came in with a Very fair price compared to other competitors out there, his work ethic and everything that went into. The project was above and beyond My expectations. All of his equipment is up-to-date and performed amazing during the duration of the project. He also installed a culvert and entryway leading into the property for the construction site, highly recommend very reliable and honest."

"I have learned a lot in the past two weeks about hiring contractors. I made a major mistake hiring a neighbor to install flooring for my house. He was recommended by another neighbor. The contractor quit because I complained about the mess they left on the property like cigarette butts, saw dust on my porch, using my table for a saw horse, working 3 hours a day at the most, not prepping the floor for level installation and leaving my $6k of flooring outside in rain and hot sun ruining 12 boxes. Then after quitting, he seemed to think it was okay to walk into my home, without permission, when I was not there. I had to call law enforcement to insure nothing had been stolen or damaged. I had given him $2,500 up front, which was not adjusted for his total of maybe 10 hours of shotty work. It happened to be a blessing that he quit because he did not follow any installation directions like spacing for floor contractions, using caulk instead of required silicone, using incorrect baseboards and quarter round. And to top it off, he was charging me $3,000 more than a licensed, insured, professional, and experienced installer. After he quit, I got estimates from 3 different flooring installers, one which was recommended by Floor & Decor out of Greenville. Only one floor installer professional went over the installation instructions and warranties. Not from Floor & Decor, I hired Youngblood Flooring. They weren’t the cheapest, not the most expensive, but definitely the best. After this whole nightmare with my home absolutely destroyed and in disheveled living conditions, Youngblood immediately jumped in to save the day! My floors now look amazing. They are installed properly with warranty, and it looks professional. Not just slapped in. So here’s what I hope you take away from my mistakes. Just because you know where they live and has been known as a good handyman, doesn’t mean they will do the job right. Never, ever let a contractor give you an estimate without writing down date of completion, or failure to complete job, or getting a refund for your deposit if they quit. Make sure it’s signed too. Just make sure expectations are in writing. A written estimate may be considered a contract so don’t sign it ever. Contracts should be explanatory for scope of work, costs, completion time, and expectations of yours and their’s responsibilities. Also if they can have access to your property. Always get multiple quotes and question them about the installation instructions to see if they know what they are doing. Never trust 3rd party installers from big box stores. The big box will not take any responsibility for their recommendation. If you have hired a contractor and you see signs of them disrespecting your property, shotty work, or not putting in a full days work, you probably better get another contractor. Get a copy of their insurance and bonding should you need to file a claim against them. Thanks for letting me rant, but I know there are people out there that have or might be in the same situation. I hope you can learn from my mistakes. I see people on here all the time asking for recommendations. Beware! However, I would highly recommend Youngblood Flooring. Clint and Jonathan and their team left a very positive and professional impression on me that I would now expect from every one I contract for a job. Don’t just take my word for it, have them come out and give you an estimate and a copy of their contract to review before hiring them. You’ll be impressed too. Good luck to you."

"Excellent job. Patrick came the same day I called, gave me a written estimate (which wasn't the lowest I had). He called me to confirm that he would be on time to start work and completed the job as discussed. I would recommend his company to anyone who needs a lot cleared or has a debris removal problem."

"Absolutely fantastic!  Years ago I had granite countertops installed.  The installer is now out of business and the sink that was installed eventually separated from the countertops and managed to take all the piping out with it when it fell.  Even though these guys had nothing to do with the installation, Hard Rocks Stone and Tile really helped me out within hours of calling (and two days before Christmas)!  My sink is reattached and I am thrilled they were able to do this for me.  Will definitely call them for new bathroom vanity in the new year!  Thank you very much! <br />"

"I contacted Mark Kirkland via his email address. He contacted me promptly. He was able to give me an estimate for the work through email. He sent out his representative, James, to finalize the estimate and have the contract signed. I drained the pool, only to have ground water seep back in. This complicated the process, and we did a change of contract. The crew showed up on time, did a very professional job, and always let me know when they arrived, how the job was progressing, and when they left for the day. They had to remove the gate in order to get the heavy machinery in the yard. Each day they re-installed the gate when they were done for the day so I could let the dogs out. Although there were some technical problems, such as a flat tire on the trailer carrying the excavator, extra time and effort to break up the concrete surrounding the pool, and ground water infiltration, the budget did not increase. When all was finished, they cleaned up, leaving the area looking as though they had never been there. The professionalism of Mark and his crew made an ugly job less stressful than I would have thought."

"Mr. Chapman was outstanding. Over the last six months I've had lots of work done on my house by many different kinds of service providers (painters, electricians, plumbers, flooring installers, etc.). He is tops among all these people not only for the quality of his work and his responsiveness, but also for his very reasonable price. He was very impressive beyond merely doing what he promised; without any prompting from me he went the extra mile to make sure the work looked as good as possible, even if it meant more time on the job for him than he had originally thought. I will use him again for any masonry needs. I recommend him very highly to you. <br />"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Fairhope, AL

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
