He was very kind and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, as I suspected, it was a replacement. Jeff the project called and we walked through our options and price with him. He was low pressure and very understanding. We decided after our research to schedule a replacement for Sunday morning. Les and Brandon arrived on time and were very nice and worked quickly. "We had a leak in a pipe near the water heater.  I told Brian I intended to replace the water heater so he applied a temporary fix - at no cost - rather than spend the time necessary to a long term fix.
Because I have a large house and a large tub, the original configuration was a 40 gallon heater and a 50 gallon storage tank.  I had the storage tank removed when it began to leak a few years ago.
The remaining heater was good for a shower or two but no more, and the water was cold before the tub was filled enough for the jets to kick in.
Brian quoted me a high efficiency tank heater (with a storage tank) and a tankless model.  I've been considering a tankless heater for a long time but when I did the math, I decided a tankless was probably my best option.  Brian and Bill installed it a few days later and explained how to maintain it. 
There doesn't seem to be any less water pressure but the supply of hot water never ends!  I highly recommend this company and the tankless option.
