"Don, Joe, and Matt are the guys you need for any home interior improvement work. These guys installed new vinyl plank flooring for us and did a fantastic job. They kept me informed on the details of the work and answered any questions I had. Our basement walls aren't exactly square in some places (be careful who you hire - it wasn't these guys) but they installed the floor with care and in a way that didn't make the uneven walls obvious. We liked the work so much, we had them back a week later to do the baseboards and door trim we were planning to do ourselves. In fact, we have another project in mind for the summer and I know we will be talking to these guys when it's time. Thanks Don, Joen and Matt for a job well done!"

"The contractor arrived on time with all supplies and ready to work.  I have the deck disassembled with all reusable wood stacked according to size.  <br /> The deck was leveled and reassembled within a couple of hours.  My sons and I did assist the contractor which made the job move along and deceased the cost.  <br /> The final touches will be completed soon. <br /> <br />"

"Larry's performance places him head and shoulders above any of his competition in the Western NY area. <br /> From the beginning to the end it was a very professional experience. Larry came to my house to survey a complete bathroom remodeling project. At the conclusion of the survey Larry provided me with a thorough estimate of materials and labor. In addition to that he guided me on material selections and options I had not considered. <br /> During the project Larry overcame some significant challenges with plumbing and structural problems that were not evident during the survey. At each step of the way Larry provided me with daily updates. <br /> In the end I was extremely pleased with the results <br /> I highly recommend this contractor for any home improvement project, and I plan to use him again. <br />"

"Quality work. Competitively priced. We needed an architect for a basement project and after getting a few quotes from other companies, we chose Max Parangi Architects - best in care and price. They delivered the plans promptly, had a good understanding of the building inspection process and even recommended local contractors. If you are looking for an architect firm for your home improvement project (big or small), you definitely want to call Max Parangi Architects."

"The most impressive part of their service was the turn around time. From the time we had the first meeting to the time I had finished plans, only a week had past. The plans were also very detailed and my subs had no problem following them for construction. Lane was available if we did have any questions and did a couple of revisions for no charge. I am currently using him to design an addition for a home I am working on."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Fillmore, NY

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
