"Jackson Construction did a superb job on my kitchen/DR and bath remodels. I'm having them back to possibly add a sunroom and rebuild the front porch. I will try to add some pix if the review form will let me. Quality builder, obviously would use again because I already am. :-)"

"We hired Christie Architecture to design a complete remodel of our kitchen, laundry area, and small full bathroom in our 1907 Four Square in Portland. Lisa was great to work with. She was able to take the vision of our dream kitchen and make it our reality. The original kitchen/laundry area/bathroom space was fairly small, however she utilized every square inch of space to get us all the things we wanted and our kitchen feels so large and spacious. We definitely had some challenges with a 112 year old house and I appreciated her honesty and candor in preparing us for those unknowns. Lisa delivered every element of the project on time and was always available to troubleshoot problems during construction. Our contractor also told us how he appreciated her detailed work and her professionalism. I would definitely hire them again for another design/remodel project."

"From the moment that JC Unger came to provide an assessment of our damaged bath project and identify his ability to resolve the issue and complete a full master bath remodel, his attention to detail and quality were evident. He was thorough with his information and provided options, examples, product specifics, etc. He was not our least expensive bid, but he was the bid that we felt would deliver the highest quality at a fair price. And, with already spending thousands of dollars on a failed project, we were significantly trying to ensure a successful outcome by hiring someone we could confirm was capable. His knowledge, presence, and Angie's list reviews helped our confidence level. We found JC experienced, easy to communicate with, and honest. He never over-promised and under delivered - in fact the exact opposite. An example would be that on several occasions he offered us assistance or advise on additional things we were working on ourselves and not part of his contract obligation. Another example is identifying our pocket door for the master closet should have a support piece added to additionally stabilize for the frameless shower door. He paid great attention to the tile installation and specific layout and our desired design options - pre-planning cuts to ensure the start and the finish of the tile work would all be factored in. He was meticulous about cleaning up after work was performed and keeping debris contained during the project. Never did we have to oversee JC"s work because he is so quality driven. It really was a pleasure having such a professional complete our remodel. My husband actually said, "We needed JC to baby us and do a super great job because of all the horror we went through with the previous contractor." Obviously, we plan to use JC for all our future work. JC restored our faith in contractors quality and the bonus was his warm personality and fun humor!"

"It went beautifully from start to finish. Excellent product choices, and quot;cut aboveand quot; decor recommendations and complete satisfaction with his work. We consider Rafael a craftsman, rather than a carpenter. People often slow their vehicles to take in the beauty of our and quot;magicand quot; cottage -style home. We often recommend him as a qualified, detail-oriented builder.. <br />"

"I have been using them for 3 years for multiple projects and would not go to somebody else. They also built a cabin in the woods. It was built 10 miles from the road so it was like carrying all the stuff up the path. They also did the garage and remodeling of the house, mostly kitchen and a little bit of plumbing work in the bathroom. I am still using them and I would be using them for the next thing that will be coming up too."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Florence, OR

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
