When I accepted their bid, but the work couldn't start for over a month, they held the original price even though the cost of materials had just gone up. When they came to do the work, they were courteous and always willing to answer any questions I had about the process. And Ryan, the owner, is a real sweetheart; he came by at the end to check and make sure I was satisfied, which I definitely was. I've already recommended them privately to 2 friends who are ready to redo their own roofs."

"I had a 2nd layer put on about 12 years ago. It was suppose to be good for 30 years (I guessed 20) but the workmanship was lacking and it had been leaking in the valleys for a number of years. IDEAL was the last one to bid but in short time talking, I decided on them. After stripping 2 layers, they had to replace a number of plywood sheets as the old ones were disintegrating. Ideal did a Superb Job working around rainy days. They installed all new flashing, new vents and metal around all roof edges. Even the skylight needed to be replaced. "Miguel was very quite and polite. There was absolutely no pressure or attempt to beguile me into a deeper project. His crew was respectful as well. They played their music at a low volume not disrupting myself or neighbors. This has been a problem with other work crews in my neighborhood. Miguel did exactly what he said he would do. He even installed 2 new roof vents for no additional cost. He was on schedule and was successfully in and out of the project. He did not claim to know it all yet had the confidence as some one who does. My snap shot of him was a very polite, professional, well manner, and balanced individual. The roof repair he and his crew did tied into the existing roof as if there had been no damage to begin with. Other roofers tried to sell me an entire roof replacement. Me, knowing what I know, knew this to be false. People, what I have said here is true. A very reputable roofing company tried to sell me an entire teardown and replacement. "Rain City Roofers: an honest, straightforward, skilled and reasonable roofing contractor I was entertaining the idea of having a major home improvement entity install a new roof, new screened gutters and new upstairs windows on my 1911 home in inner SE Portland, but the price tag shock (over $30K for those three projects) gave me considerable pause. And this companyâ s sales technique (which I now know is called â price conditioningâ (contractor starts out with what they represent as the average price for the type of project, rather than figuring the time and materials cost and adding a reasonable profit), was a turn-off. When I questioned the price approach, the big outfit started offering a much lower price. But now I did not trust them. Instead, after more research, I decided to go with three different companies, each of which specialized in only one product and service, and each of which was very straightforward regarding its bid to do the work. One of those companies was a gutter outfit, which in turn referred me to Rain City Roofers in Vancouver for my roofing needs. Rain City was not the lowest bid I received for the roofing job on our SE Portland home, but I was impressed by the high level of installation quality (e.g., using more nails than the minimum to ensure shingles would not blow off, as well as its use of an attractive and intelligently designed architectural shingle made by Owens Corning, a tried & true company, and also the degree of care that Rain City put into planning and executing the roofing proposal. But what absolutely sold me on Rain City Roofers was its honesty and straightforwardness from start to finish, by each and every person connected with the company, including its knowledgable sales rep Don, the receptionist (Elizabeth), the entire roofing crew that came out, and the owner Jason and his son Austin.
