"Fantastic experience with ABS. I’m embarrassed to say when they told me Colleen would be out to measure, I thought , a girl ??!! Total projection since I can’t even measure a rug. She really knows her stuff ! Had great ideas and was completely understanding of keeping my little terror dog from having any slack to start to dig. As you can see my land is hilly and they got this right to the ground. Perfect ! I was also concerned about keeping the view. Colleen explained a 4 foot fence would take care of this. She also encouraged me to sit on the deck with someone holding a measuring stick to be sure it wouldn’t impact the view. I love the way she thinks and communicates! Every-time I had a question she had the answer. She explained things in a way that wasn’t condescending or showed annoyance. I think I was annoying lol. I would’ve wanted to tell me to shut up. The guys who showed up worked nonstop. It was pouring rain and they didn’t care. I told them they could come on a better day but they kept plugging away. "My main goal in using this service was to get an idea of just what value my house had. I have lied in the house (built in 1890) for thirty years. I have personally done some renovation but I mostly have had professional electricians and plumbers do their work.
My city in Massachusetts revalues real-estate annually. (How else can the teachers and other over-pensioned public employees get their benefits? :-)  It has had a rash of tear-downs and subsequent erections of many McMansions. Currently, an over-supply of $1 million to $5 million houses exists. In fact the over-supply is a few times MORE than the other price ranges combined.
I live about two blocks away from a fairly pricey neighborhood, but my house is next to a very busy intersection. A neighborhood school and public transit are nearby. So, I wanted to get an idea if continued maintenance or improvement was better financially than doing the only the barest of work; i.e., a positive NPV (net present value).
The owner and his assistant called me separately about a week after we met. I did not detect any hard-sell. When I get my tax bill for the year 2015 I will know if the company helped me to determine a current value that matched the city's assessment. As for answering the question of a positive NPV for any improvements, I do not expect a clear answer as markets can change somewhat quickly.
     1) They offered a thirty-day guarantee on pricing ... I don't feel comfortable taking fewer than thirty days when I have considered projects to improve my house; in fact, I have taken longer than for previous work I have done.
     2) when I hear "proprietary software", bells ring as in the stock market's "proprietary algorithms" for High Frequency Trading
(basically the transfer of profit to the insiders (the pay-to-play game).
     3) I have seen the one-stop fits-all model before. A local wood floor installer has a company name that implies it is local to Boston. In fact, it sub-contracts to those available in the METRO Boston area (the two installers came from southern NH, about 35 miles away).
     4) One price estimate to power-wash my rear deck was $3,200. I have power-washed my deck several times. I own a power-washer. They priced a new rug for the front stairs that also seemed a little high.

"I contacted Bennett Painting Plus on May 27, 2015 to get an estimate on having painting done at a home that I was buying on June 22nd.  Fay replied to my AngiesList message with a day and would have come to give me an estimate right away, but unfortunately I didn't have access to the property until after closing.  We arranged for the estimate on site to take place on June 24th.  Fay and Burt ran about 30 min late, but they did call in advance to let me know they were running late, which I appreciated.  They gave me an estimate on the spot for $850 plus the cost of paint, which they would purchase for me and pass along their discount.  I knew the colors I wanted and passed that information along to them.  Luckily I wanted Benjamin Moore paint and that's what they also prefer to use, but would have used a different brand if I preferred.
I was very impressed that when they came to view the rooms and looked at the bathrooms, they mentioned that it looked that the mirrors were glued (they should have been mounted, not glued) and suggested that they help take them down right then. It was a great help that they did that because we couldn't have removed them ourselves. Plus, Burt put a first coat of Spackle on the holes left behind from the glue before leaving. This helped save time when they came to paint.
Fay called me the next day after the estimate and confirmed that they could paint the rooms on June 30th, which worked for me.
Fay, Burt, and another lady arrived on the 30th and put a first coat of paint on all the walls. Burt worked tirelessly to repair the bathroom walls damaged by the glue from the mirrors.  He had to put on three coats of Spackle and sand it down. Ultimately, they had to split the work into 2 days (June 30th and July 1st) because of paint drying time and the extra work needed to repair the walls. I didn't mind that at all because the delay was due to their focus on getting the job done right, rather than rushing through it.
Everyone was friendly, efficient, neat, and conscious of keeping the home clean and in good shape. Even with the extra work done to repair the walls, they honored their initial estimated cost ($850 plus the cost of paint, which came to $1,120), which I appreciated.
I really recommend Bennett Painting. They were easy to work with, responsive in their communication, and did great work.
