"Great work. Needed to have this work done months ago. This very nice young man showed up when he said he would and fixed my kitchen cabinets in a day’s work. Will highly recommend him to anyone."

"I live in Palmaire and was selling my place but my front door needed to be painted and thankfully someone in my building told me about an add posted on our bulletin board to have my front door painted. After speaking with Helen though she was super busy she made the time to come and paint my door on the weekend. I was so pleased that she fit me in and did a great job on my door. Thank so much Helen you’re the best! Would definitely recommend her and hire her again."

"I am a single woman living alone, and I'm not very handy with tools, so I purchased Eyal's Big Deal to have him move and re-install some wire shelving in my bedroom closet.  HE WAS FANTASTIC!  He accommodated my schedule and arrived punctually on a Sunday morning with all  his own tools.   As soon as I described what I wanted him to do with the closet, he knew exactly what to do, and he even came up with a suggestion on how to increase the hanging space in the closet, which worked beautifully.  He worked quickly and he cleaned up after himself.  He patched the holes, and he even would have vacuumed, except that there was so much time left over from my 3-hour Big Deal that I had him do other small projects.  His motto is,"there's always a solution." He was productive every minute of the three hour time frame, and he made sure that the finished product was perfect.  He said, "if I wouldn't like it in my house, I'm not going to do it that way for you."  We discussed other projects, and he had brilliant ideas on how to build a vanity area in my bedroom on a budget and how to switch the closet door so that it would open out into the room without damaging the door frame (I live in a rental, so that is very important to me).  Besides his work ethic, he was very personable and a pleasure to deal with.  I will definitely be hiring him again soon.

"I had a wonderful experience working with Zahir and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to purchase a home. I always viewed home repairs, renovations, or even new constructions as a long, hectic, and quite confusing process, however Zahir guided me through every step. He led with care and my best interest in mind. He remained attentive to details and was very easy to communicate with throughout the process. Zahir worked diligently to ensure all my goals were met. Thank you for all the hard work and if I am ever in the market looking for further projects, I will definitely prefer to work with Zahir again."

"After researching Google and Angie's list, I found Florida Standard Roofing. Their reviews were excellent, so I checked out their website. It was comprehensive and user friendly. I called and made an appointment with Danny Crespo, owner, for an estimate on a new roof. Danny arrived on time and answered all of my and my husbands questions. He was very polite, informative, and patient. Danny is a 3rd generation roofer. His father, Luis Crespo, was also onsite during the roof rebuild. Both of them were always very polite and helpful. Danny told us that he/his company was certified as a Master Elite GAF Timberline roofing company. But that rating wasn't what sold us on Danny, so much as the great reviews of his company, and then after meeting him we felt confident that he was honest and competent. He was always available, and if he couldn't answer a call, he'd return it right away. Danny, provided us with a folder of information, the likes of which NO contractor has ever offered us before. It was filled with pertinent roofing and materials information, descriptions of product, a client reference list of 80 names and phone numbers of customers who had their roofs worked on by Florida Standard Roofing, a list of 32 completed GAF Shingled roofs, by his company, with addresses, for us to view, a letter of introduction with a lot of buyer friendly information and web sites where you can look up and confirm his company's license is active, copies of the company's license and certificate of Liability Insurance, plus a 'vocabulary' page of 'common roofing terminology' and diagrams of the 'anatomy of a roof'. Brilliant! THAT's confidence! in your company and work. We knew then that we were going to have Danny do our roof. His estimate was not the cheapest, but I knew he would do the best work. It took me a year to finally start the roof, (not because of Danny's schedule, but because of mine), but I spoke with Danny many times over that period and he always answered all of my questions and made every effort to work with my schedule. He is one patient guy! We had to get past 2 surgeries, my daughters Sweet 16 birthday party, Hurricane Irma and the Holidays, before we could finally get to our roof...but the biggest reason we had to delay was because we had to find a competent person to remove/support our screened patio cage/enclosure, and replace the super gutter that is between the screened cage and the rotten fascia board that we wanted Florida Standard Roofing to replace. We finally found someone competent to replace the super gutter, so we coordinated them with Florida Standard Roofing, and our schedules, to begin in February. The shingles were delivered by a big truck with a boom that had a conveyor belt on it. On roofing day, and every day, the crew arrived on time, were very polite and neat. They cleaned up at the end of the day too, using a magnet to pick up stray nails in the yard, etc. I asked them to put a cover over the patio, to protect the new tile and pool, and to keep nails from leaving rust stains, and they covered it everyday they worked in that area. I never saw a crew work so hard, from the moment they arrived, until they left at 5pm. (They took a well deserved hour for lunch). We discovered that we have a tongue in groove roof. It needed a lot of wood replaced, especially in the 2 valleys. We replaced 1x8 PT fascia board around the entire house, and 2x8 PT fascia on the patio, plus some rotten soffit was replaced. The crew installed GAF Pro Start Shingles on all eaves an rakes, GAF Cobra Ridge Exhaust Vents, GAF Timberline Lifetime High Def. Shingles, GAF Storm Guard Film Surfaced Secondary Leak Barrier, over the entire roof, (qualifying owner to receive an insurance discount), GAF Seal-a-Ridge protective ridge Cap Shingles, and new drip line. We were very pleased with Danny and his awesome crew, at Florida Standard Roofing, and highly recommend them."

"We chose the handyman because he quoted a low price ($90-100). All others were $150.  We took out the old microwave ourselves and marked the backplate hiles but could not get through the tile because of improper drilll power.  I explained the situation in that the holes were marked for back plate but three holes through wooden shelf bottom where microwave would be attached still needed to be located and drilled.  He understood the scope of the job and agreed to do it.
I helped him during the work (handing tools, loaning some of my tools and ladder, helping to hang appliance, etc.).  I suggested putting 2x4 next to stove knobs to protect them and he didn't think it was necessary. I wish we had, because during the installation the work blankent he put over the stove caught on fire when he accicently turned on a burner during the installation operation,  The acrid smoke was overpowering and I had to open all doors and windows to air out the place.  Later my wife had to scrub the burner to get the stains off.
He had a good procedure to mark the holes using blue tape.  I asked him why he marked one line with a curly added mark--and he remarked that is where the electric cord goes.  Once the holes were drilled we lifted the appliance to bolt in but one mark was off about 3 inches and we had to redrill and lift again. I think he used the wire centerline mark instead of the other.
Over all the job was okay with exception of redrilling the hole and burning up the blanket causing smoke smell throughout the house.  The part of this job that I feel was not fair to me was the contractor not honoring his quote. I asked how much? and he said $150. That really surprised me because he quouted $90-$100 earlier. I asked if he would consider $125 and he gave me a line of how expensive it is to buy food and gas. I didn't think it was worthwhile arguing and causing hard feelings and went ahead and paid the amount. I wouldn't hire this contractor again becuase he deceived me on the price. Not only that I was very helpful in getting the job done by pre-marking the back plate holes and providing some of my tools and ladder. He didn't espress any appreciation for that.  I just don't feel good about how this turned out and wouldn't hire this person again.

FAQs for arbor, pergola or trellis custom build projects in Fort Lauderdale, FL

Pergolas and gazebos are both outdoor structures, but there are differences between the two. A pergola has a slatted roof that allows partial sunlight to filter through, creating a light and airy space. In contrast, a gazebo features a solid roof that provides complete shade. This key difference influences the comfort and visual appeal of your outdoor space.

Prefabricated pergola kits require one to four hours of assembly, while custom pergola designs take an average of eight to 16 hours. Additional groundwork, such as pouring a concrete slab, leveling the site, and removing obstructions, may extend the installation process to several weeks, ensuring a secure and long-lasting build.

A standard pergola kit ships with everything you need—four support posts, rafters, top runners, support beams, and hardware for anchoring the frame to a concrete pad. Many manufacturers also bundle add-ons like retractable canopies, privacy screens, or modular sections that let you tweak the footprint. Because each part is pre-cut and labeled, the kit helps you—or your contractor—assemble a sturdy, attractive structure without extra trips to the hardware store.
