"We had freedom renovations replace a section of our hardwood floors that were damaged by a slow water leak. We had to have the entire first floor refinished as well as the damaged section replaced. The results were unbelievable. Perfect patch job and a flawless refinishing job. The results have added value to our home. Thank you freedom renovations for a great job."

"Brandon took the time to listen and proactively address potential issues and concerns. Project was for installation of 920 square feet of luxury vinyl planks, not hardwood, a much better option for us. Installation was completed in a single day. Brandon followed up shortly after installation to address any concerns. I would use this company again."

"We were very pleased! Zack helped us bring the beauty back to old pine and red oak hardwood floors in a 1957 house. Some areas were badly pet stained from years being hidden beneath carpet. We were thrilled with the results. Zack is very professional and has years of personal experience in the hardwood business. He is personable and helped us decide the best stain selection. He looked at the job as though it were his own house. He was always on time with our appointments and we were happy with the reasonable pricing. We got more for our money than we would have gotten with another recommended company based on the quotes."

"My hardwoods in several rooms needed refinishing. Bryan and his crew did the sandless refinishing in one room and the traditional refinishing in the kitchen. I was so happy with both results!. The sandless refinishing made my old floor look almost new, and I was able to walk on it by the afternoon! The refinishing in my kitchen went so smoothly, and I was back in there in 3 days! Bryan worked hard to match the color to my existing floors and I could not be more pleased. Bryan is punctual, dependable, hardworking and very accommodating. I would definitely recommend Bryan and his crew!"

"Our sales associate Tim Brown was experienced, knowledgeable, responsive and pleasant to work with. He was also the one who came to our house to take measurements and prepare the quote. After experiencing a confusing quote process at HomeDepot with multiple parties involved it was important for us to have a single person for contact. The crew that came out to
install the flooring apparently was subcontracted and not fully informed about the scope of the work. It took a phone call with Tim to get them to do what was originally agreed. They did a fine job with the carpet on the stairs. The vinyl flooring itself was also done well. But the new quarter rounds, which they put where the vinyl meets the baseboards, where installed without removing silicone sealant left behind from the original quarter rounds.  The appearance was by far not ?like new? as Tim had promised during his visit. After contacting Tim about this issue he sent out their own installation crew for inspection. They agreed to our complaint and came back the same day to remove the old silicone in the areas of concern and apply a fresh silicone thread. This took them less than an hour. The end result is excellent and grade A. I gave the B rating for professionalism because a company, which has been in the business for so long, should get the installation right the first time. We would use Empire Carpet&Blinds again.

"Marcio owns and operates a very honest, thorough and detail-oriented business and does exactly what he says at exactly the times he said he would. Most important, for people doing home improvements, Marcio is extraordinarily responsive and proactive with his communication. Specifically, we bought a house in May 2021 and wanted to add matching hard wood (5” white oak) to areas of the house that had carpet and refinish the existing hardwood. The existing floors had gaps between the boards and had bumps in certain areas as well. Marcio procured the wood in the middle of a nationwide lumber shortage, dropped it off to let it settle for a couple days and then came by to install it. He then sanded the floors to be perfectly level, filled in the gaps, showed us stain and polyurethane options set out for us on our actual floors and then completed the staining and two coats of poly. The floors looked unbelievable. He added the shoe molding around the base and cove molding under each tread on the stairs. His work was impeccable, his timing was perfect and his price was the best of all the quotes I had initially received. I highly recommend him and his business."

"I called John Monday morning. He met me at noon that same day to provide an estimate, and he started the next morning. Work was finished by noon on Thursday, and he threw in extras such as putting a coat on the decorative wood around the stairs - he even fed the cats. The floors look amazing! He was polite, professional and friendly. The expense was very fair for the work completed. I will definitely call him again."

FAQs for wood flooring refinish projects in Fort Mill, SC

The hardest wood floor finish is aluminum oxide, but it only comes on prefinished boards. If you want something durable you can add after installation, acid-cured is your best bet. The key to the longevity of any type of wood floor is a maintenance coat when a traffic pattern begins to show in high traffic areas.

Moisture-cured urethane is the most durable finish for homes with pets. However, It contains a lot of (VOCs) that can aggravate pets and people, especially at first. If you’re looking for a low-VOC alternative, water-based polyurethane is your best bet.

Bona sells several highly-rated polyurethane hardwood floor finish products, typically through small, local distributors. Brands like DuraSeal or Minwax also rank well for durability and ease of application. They are available at businesses such as Walmart and Amazon.

You have to seal unfinished hardwood floors to protect them from scratches and stains. The frequency depends on the type, but in general it’s ideal to refinish them between four and six times in their lifetime. This comes out to about every seven to 10 years.

Refinishing hardwood floors costs $1,100 to $2,400.

Wood stain adds a color to the surface. A finish adds a level of shine (e.g. matte, low-gloss, high-gloss) and seals the grain to protect against damage. Some companies, such as Minwax, offer products that do both at once.
