"I worked with James and he was fantastic to work with. We submitted my claim to insurance company and they denied it but James knew what to do next. We submitted and appraisal and my roof was covered. James is super nice and helpful. He would answer all my questions even if at crazy times of the day. My roof looks great with Owens Corning dimension shingles which James helped me pick out. I would high recommend them for your roofing needs."

"Indy legacy builders recently completed a new roof, gutters, and copper roof above our bay window. Dave provided a preliminary assessment of our roof and estimate. After filing an insurance claim Dave came back to our home and met with the adjuster to discuss the hail damage found on the roof and gutters. There were multiple supplemental attachments provided by Dave, that I submitted to insurance as the insurance company didn't account for certain variables and material costs. Scheduling was flawless with Indy Legacy Builders. They removed our old gutters, replaced rotten fascia, and trim. We had painters come out and paint the new trim and siding before the new roof and gutters were installed. Dave's crew were early to the job and worked into the evening completing the roof in less than 36 hours. Gutters, and the bay window copper roofing were installed to finish it off. All landscaping was covered well for the demo and magnets were rolled all around the house and landscaping to remove any excess nails from install. The shingle warranty was promptly sent over to us for our records. Dave worked with us and insurance to get the job done. I recommend Dave to my friends, family, neighbors, and clients. You will be in good hands."

"We were given complete information and written material about what would be done. The crew was efficient and careful in removing old shingles, putting on new shingles and cleaning up afterward. AJ's were also recommended by our insurance claims adjuster."

"Josh and his team @ JW are the BEST! He took the time to walk through the entire insurance replacement process with us step by step and made sure we were informed as to what was going on and what to expect during the process as well. I would definitely have Josh and JW Restores back to my home or my families homes for any repairs. Josh is a straight shooter, honest and dependable. A+ quality of company and workmanship!"

"The whole process went extremely well. My salesperson, Scott, was so thorough in working with my insurance company as well as making sure I understood the entire process. The guys on the roofing crew were professional and got the job done in a timely manner. The final cost after insurance was reasonable and they offered financing to help. I would definitely use this company again!!"

"It has been an absolute pleasure working with Ryan and the guys at blue ladder. We knew we were gonna need repairs and had talked to a place or two beforehand, and we're getting absolutely nowhere, and a little desperate if I'm being honest. One day, out of the blue, Ryan showed up and offered to take a look. Within just a few weeks, we had a new roof. And throughout all this winter they have fought with the insurance to make sure we got all our siding replaced. They really came through, and I cannot recommend them enough. Please give these guys a call!"

"They Purchased to many materials, and did not give me a receipts to return them to store. I offered to give them to him he said he would be back and he never came, gave them to someone I knew I could not communicate with the workers due to language barrier. They did really good with roofing, they laced out tarp to catch nails and clean up was great."

"Joe is one of the most knowledgeable roofers that I have met. He's very professional, detailed oriented and has great communication. He listens to his clients. His crew was right on time. They were respectful of the property and did a great setup of protecting the vegetation prior to starting the removal of the old roof. Joe came during the day to check on the progress. After the roof was replaced he walked the roof looking to make sure that everything was done properly. He then sent a short video of the roof from the roof top. He is very quick to address any concerns or problems. I highly recommend Armor Contracting."

FAQs for natural slate roofing installation and replacement projects in Frankton, IN

A slate roof features thin tiles of natural stone installed over a solid deck and underlayment. Formed under intense heat and pressure, slate is exceptionally durable and delivers a distinctive, high-end look. Because the material weighs far more than asphalt, most homes need added structural support before installation.

While upfront costs are higher and routine inspections are a must, many homeowners choose slate for its unmatched longevity and curb appeal.

Slate stands out for its 50- to 200-year life span, low maintenance, and classic aesthetic. It’s fire-resistant, energy-efficient, and often boosts resale value.

On the flip side, slate runs far more per square foot than asphalt, weighs up to four times as much, and demands a contractor who specializes in the material. Tiles can crack on impact, and repairs cost more because the work is slow and precise. If your budget and structure can handle it, slate delivers top-tier performance for generations.

Natural and synthetic slate aim for a premium, stone-like appearance, whereas asphalt focuses on affordability. Real slate runs $10 to $30 per square foot installed and lasts up to 200 years; synthetic slate costs $10 to $15 and tops out at 50 to 100 years.

Standard asphalt averages $3 to $8 per square foot and needs replacement every 20 to 30 years. If you want the slate look without the full price tag—or extra roof weight—synthetic is a solid middle ground.

With routine inspections and prompt repairs, a natural slate roof can last well beyond 100 years; some hard-slate installations reach the 200-year mark. Soft slate falls in the 50- to 125-year range, and synthetic products last 50 to 100 years.

Remember, flashing, fasteners, and the underlying structure may need attention sooner than the stone itself. Severe hail or fallen limbs can also shorten life span, so schedule periodic checkups with a slate-qualified roofer.

If you plan to stay in your home long term—or want a standout selling point—slate delivers strong value. Although installation costs are high, owners often recoup 60% to 70% at resale and enjoy lower replacement cycles than asphalt. The stone’s durability, energy efficiency, and timeless curb appeal also appeal to eco-conscious buyers because fewer roofs end up in landfills. Just be sure your framing can handle the weight and that you budget for occasional specialty repairs.

Skip the DIY climb if you have a slate roof. Slate may be tough against the weather, but a single misplaced step can crack a tile and create a leak path. The surface also turns slick when wet, upping the risk of injury. Professional crews use staging and hook ladders that spread weight across multiple slates, protecting both the roof and the worker. To inspect or repair slate, call a roofer who specializes in the material.
