"# Generator Repair Nightmare Had issues with my Generac 32KW (installed March 2023). In January 2025, it wouldn't start. Feb 4: Submitted service request Feb 11: Mike came but couldn't fix it Feb 26: Replaced part - didn't work Mar 14: Replaced another part - still broken Apr 2: Replaced wiring harness - no success Major problems with this company: - Poor communication (weeks of silence) - Multiple failed repair attempts - Technician eventually said "I CANNOT FIX IT" and told me to call Generac myself - Never sent promised documentation of work done During a March storm, I spent $1000 at Harbor Freight on a temporary generator. As a business owner, I'm appalled that a certified Generac contractor would give up and shift responsibility to the customer. After two months of "service," my generator still doesn't work. You can see my full review on their google page. https://www.google.com/search?q=lightning+technologies"

"I had a federal pacific panel replaced. The technician and work were professional. However, I explained to the technician that I lost power in a large section of wall. After the job was complete, I found I still didn’t have power in the wall. Now I’m being told it is a separate job and cost. An explanation before having the work done about it being a separate problem and needing additional work would have been very helpful. All I’m told now is they can come out for a service call which is $212 plus whatever the issue is. This was a miscommunication error on Mr. Electrics side. I informed the tech about the problem and there was no testing on the wall afterwards. Very disappointed."

Winchester Electric is a one man operation that is backed up by 15 years of experience including private and commercial industry. I had the chance to hire and decided against it because by doing so, I am able to keep my overhead down, which means more money in the clients pocket. I also decided to keep operation small because I am very particular about the quality of work I do and the only way to know my clients are getting the best quality of work.....I must do it myself.

The main drawbacks of lightning protection systems are upkeep and appearance. The system needs routine cleaning and professional inspections; skip them, and the rods might fail when you need them most. Over time, those visits add a little extra cost and effort. Some homeowners also dislike the look of metal rods or cables along the roofline. If aesthetics worry you, ask your installer about lower-profile hardware or ways to blend the components into your roof.
No, the copper in lightning rods does not attract lightning. Instead, lightning targets the highest nearby point, not the metal itself. Copper is simply a superior conductor, which is why pros use it. When a bolt hits the rod, the copper safely channels the charge through the grounding cable and into the earth, sparing your home. Choosing copper doesn’t draw more strikes—it just handles them better.
Rod count depends on your home’s size and the system you choose. A 3,000-square-foot house needs six to eight copper or aluminum rods for full coverage, while a single ESE air terminal often protects the same area on its own. A UL-certified pro can measure your roof, spot potential strike points, and recommend the right number for complete peace of mind.
Always hire an Underwriters Laboratories-certified installer. A UL-certified pro follows the Lightning Protection Institute’s strict rules, mounts each rod securely, and uses only UL-listed parts. Professional installation protects you from falls, wiring mistakes, and code violations, and it ensures the system works exactly as designed when the next storm rolls through.
