"Excellent. John set to work right away. He worked very fast and was very knowledgeable. He determined a baseboard heater needed replacement and gave options to choose. He had a very complex task with a porch light the had no power only to find the circuit was dead and found a light fixture that was miswired and had burned the insulation off the wire. He repaired it . finding the problem required getting into the attic crawl space to trace where the wires went. I was grateful he found and fixed it as it was dangerous."

"Mike did a fantastic job upgrading my electrical panel to Leviton Smart Load Center which also is a fantastic product but not many people know how to make it work. I am glad HomeAdvisor matched my project with Mike of Wilson River Electric."

"I highly recommend Paragon Electric. Clint, the owner, was very responsive with calls and texts prior to the service call, and was thorough and knowledgeable. He explained his analysis of the electrical problem beautifully, answered questions and utilized his time well within the service call period, which included a run to a local store for an atypical breaker. Thanks Clint!"

"A heat lamp fixture in the ceiling of the bathroom in my condo failed, and the remaining can lights were blinking occasionally. I was concerned re: whether the breaker box, which tripped the breaker of the fixture that failed, was still safe. Tony assessed the fixture, evaluated what was going on in the breaker box calmly and methodically, and found a few adjustments made during a remodel a few years ago. He neatened up the oddities and left the can lights working smoothly. It was so helpful to me to have the info he provided as he went along. His rates are very fair given his expertise, and he even returned the next day and placed a cover where the heat lamp switch had been. I'd definitely hire him again for any and all electrical issues that need fixing!"

Customers say: Terrific value

"He did a decent job electrically, as far as I can tell, but the breaker panel door doesn't close properly and he pushed through the wall and popped out the drywall on the other side. Didn't even realize it until much later! I also had a couple other problems as well - mostly due to communication issues I guess. In the end I have mismatched switches, outlets, a 4" hole in an exterior wall, damaged drywall, recessed lighting of different types that aren't sealed like I requested. I could keep going but basically, when I asked about just a few of these things he gave me a hard time. He will make style decisions and assumptions without asking you! Look elsewhere"

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Gaston, OR

While homeowners with substantial electrical knowledge might technically attempt a subpanel installation, most local building departments require permits and inspections for this type of work. Professional electricians understand local code requirements, can obtain necessary permits, and ensure the installation meets safety standards. Given the significant safety risks associated with incorrect electrical work, most homeowners benefit from hiring a licensed professional.

A standard subpanel installation takes an average of four to eight hours. This timeframe may extend if you're installing multiple subpanels or adding specialized circuits like those for spa equipment. Factors such as difficult access points, complex wiring paths, or permit processing times can also affect the overall project duration.

Adding a subpanel doesn't directly reduce electricity consumption or lower your utility bills. A subpanel simply redistributes power from your main panel to additional circuits. However, organizing your electrical system more efficiently may help prevent overloaded circuits and the associated problems. For actual cost savings, consider energy-efficient appliances and lighting instead.

The appropriate subpanel size depends on your specific electrical requirements. Consider the number and type of devices you'll be powering, potential future needs, and the capacity of your main electrical panel. An electrician can perform a load calculation to determine the most suitable amperage rating for your situation, ensuring you have adequate power without overpaying for unnecessary capacity.

A main electrical panel connects directly to your utility's power supply and contains your home's primary service disconnect. It distributes electricity throughout your entire house. A subpanel, by contrast, receives power from the main panel and redistributes it to a specific area of your home. Think of the main panel as the primary distribution point and the subpanel as a secondary branch that extends your electrical system's reach.

While electrical upgrades aren't as immediately visible as kitchen or bathroom renovations, they can contribute to your home's functionality and safety. Prospective buyers often appreciate updated electrical systems that can accommodate modern power demands. A properly installed subpanel that provides additional capacity for workshops, home offices, or future expansions could be an attractive feature for certain buyers, though the direct impact on home value varies by market.
