"Internal drain tile systems with advanced sump pumps were installed in two basements. They also added the wall coverings to channel any wall leaks to the system. It works perfectly! The employees of Basement Systems are amazing - everyone is professional and helpful. The work was completed quickly. They cleaned up the job site. My basements were a lost cause - now they are restored and I can use them again. Thanks!"

"Kelly Lang Contractors took adequate time to evaluate and discuss the foundation and drainage problems before making a detailed plan of action, and were flexible during the construction process to make needed changes to the plan within the agreed budget. Supervisors and workmen were polite and sensitive to neighbor concerns, and communication in general was excellent. Since one of the primary goals of this work was to eliminate water leakage in a finished basement, I have waited over half a year to gauge the success of this effort. To date the basement has remained dry, and given the robust fix installed I am confident that this will continue - plus Lang provided a transferable lifetime guarantee on the waterproofing. I have worked with a variety of contractors over the years and can attest that Kelly Lang is among the best in their approach to problem-solving, executing the work, and communicating during the construction process. I checked with other customers directly before hiring Kelly Lang and found his reputation in our area is very good, and based on my own experience, have no hesitation in recommending him."

"All communication was prompt, through, and professional. <br /> He walked threw the property with me showed me areas of concern. As a woman he treated me with respect and talked to me as a client and not a woman who isn't familiar with all the things that are in the home, electrical, foundation, plumbing etc. <br /> He showed me everything that he included in his report and spent the time to make sure i understood. The report with details and pictures were very helpful. <br /> He had previously done an inspection on this home many years ago and actually remembered certain things about the home and was able to tell me some things that had changed since his last inspection and some things that haven't changed. Good to know seeing as home most sellers don't give you a home history upon purchasing it.   <br /> I am a very inquisitive person and that didn't bother him in the slightest. <br /> Out of all the expenses in purchasing a home I feel this was the best money spent. I plan on using him for regular home checkups!!! THANKS!!! <br />"

"<blockquote> <br /> I am in the restaurant business. That means among other things, that I work less than traditional hours. I was at first a little hesitant about having someone I only recently had met in my home to do work when I would not always be there. Because of my complicated schedule I wound up giving Donny a key to my house. I swear that my house was always cleaner after he and his men were there ! And I know that they took the garbage out for me one day ! They did a great job. My son wants to know when those nice men are coming back to do some more stuff around the house. Whatever remodeling work you need done around the house, these guys will do a fantastic job. <br /> </blockquote> <br />"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Gay, WV

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
