"Tim was great. He worked non stop for two days straight digging out a very over grown pond with back hoe/ loader. Pond looks great! He also graded and re graveled our 400 yard long driveway . Driveway almost required a 4x4 to navigate it but now a Ferrari can drive all the way to house. It turned out perfect. Tim mows our yard on a weekly basis. The yard is over 3 acres and is starting to look like a golf course now. Very nice. Seems like any job we have, Tim can do. With having over 60 acres with a barn etc, we have a lot to do. "We contacted Jason as a result of the reviews of his work on Angies List.  Jason is a working owner and uses his cell phone to conduct business so, unsurprisingly, it took us a couple of phone tags before we finally connected.  Jason came out after a full day of work and spent about 30 minutes with us discussing possible solutions to the drainage issues we wanted to address.  We settled on installation of a 40-ft retaining wall and a flower bed behind it, as well as modification of the existing irrigation system to accommodate the new construction.  We also asked Jason to do the work necessary to cap off and move any irrigation lines and equipment that would be affected by a related concrete installation project.  During the course of this work, we expanded the scope of the project to include locating and repairing a leak elsewhere in the irrigation system, reviewing and replacing spray nozzles throughout the system as appropriate, and some other general landscaping work.
Jason and his crew arrived within a few days as scheduled.  I was even surprised to see a crew report for a half-day's work on Saturday.  They did a good job of carefully exposing the irrigation lines without damage and recovering parts that we can use during reinstallation.  The retaining wall also has been completed and looks great.  We are on hold for completion of the reinstallation work and remaining landscape pending completion of the concrete work by another contractor and scheduling of Jason's crew.
Jason can be a little difficult to get hold of, and we went a couple of days wondering about the pace of the work, but I'm willing to attribute that to the fact that Jason is already working all day, a probably-misplaced expectation on my part of instant response now that we all carry cell phones, and the fact that I'm a former project manager.  To his credit, Jason accommodated several changes in the scope of work to be done during the project.  He and his team do good work, are dependable, and are fairly priced.  We have been having problems with our current landscaper (Jordan's Landscaping) and hope to replace them with Landscaping Creations for our future work.

"Hardscapes by the yard, referred by a friend, performed the services superbly. First, the owner, Mr Philip Byard, provided a thoughtful and insightful consultation about ways to improve the look of our backyard. He suggested a price-friendly way to replace the unsightly concrete cinder blocks that formed the wall with landscaping bricks, regional plants that conformed to the climate and sunlight of our backyard, and a new way of placing paving stones for paths. Finally, he provided a sketch of how earth could be "sculpted" to make the contours and topology of the backyard more attractive. Overall, I was very impressed with the care and creativity that Mr Byard put into our job. Then, with this plan and a reasonable price, he initiated the work a week later. It was completed within 5 days and involved the labor of 2-3 men. We were not at home most of the time, but overall, their presence was unobtrusive and they were unfailingly polite. As specified, they replaced the retaining wall, laid down new paving stones to improve the access to the backyard, and put in ~ 20 new plants. The yard has yet to "grow in" since it is autumn, but I anticipate it will look fabulous. Overall, we were very pleased with the work of Hardscapes by the Yard, and anticipate using them for routine yard maintenance in the future. In fact, they are removing leaves from our front yard now as I write this, and charge a very reasonable fee for this service. We like Mr Byard very much -- he is a polite and friendly gentleman -- and appreciate the care he has brought to our home. I recommend his business highly."

On Friday, he called to let me know that he was available to come earlier than scheduled, if I would like.
