"Ultimate Craftsman's owner, Mark Belvin, is a true professional. Our project of a master suite and screened porch were done with great attention to detail. The workmanship was suberb and we are more than pleased with the finished project. It was a pleasure to work with Mark and we will use him for all future projects."

"<p>I highly recommend Compton Construction. We interviewed several contractors before choosing David and accepting his bid. His crew built a screened in porch and a deck on our sloping wooded lot.  <br /> <br /></p> <p>The quality of the work is excellent --several friends and family members who are in building were just floored at the workmanship. Part of his success is that his crew is employed by him full time -- they worked well together and showed pride in the work they did for us. Some of workers even took pictures of the final product and best of all, they really liked our dog and let her hang out with them. <br /> <br /></p> <p>David worked with us on the design of the porch before construction and kept us informed all the way through the process. He advised us when we purchased extra features we wanted and arranged for an excellent electrician, who we have continued to use for other projects. I have recommended him to other friends and neighbors, who want to add on to their houses. </p> <br />"

"Stephens Remodeling was very personable and helpful.  Their design was used with some modifications.  We did not use them for the construction because the estimated cost was more than we could manage.  I am sure they would have done an excellent job. <br />"

"Have worked w/Bob Stahl since 2012 (Stahl Cabinets is now Neptune Kitchen and Bath), and was so pleased with his work that we've not used anyone else since. After some cosmetic improvements to our kitchen, powder room, and (ex) wet bar area in 2012, we decided in 2017 to upgrade our master bath, and the result was beyond our expectations (7 pix-) - could not be more pleased! We then, earlier this year/2019, decided to upgrade the guest bathroom (4 pix); convert the old brick/ceramic tile, non-working fireplace (1 pix; gas insert includes backlit/colored pebbles); bar area (1 pix, added wine racks); powder room vanity (1 pix); as well as change the kitchen cabinetry color (from polyurethane golden oak to white/peripheral cabinets, and mint green/island) (2 pix) ... again, outstanding results! Finally, we installed built-in shelving in the FROG (office), with a library ladder - quite pleased! Constant communication on both schedule and cost (on target, no surprises) - will not work with anyone else!. We recommend Neptune unconditionally!"

"I was most impressed with the subcontractors.  They were all people you were happy to welcome into your home.  The finish carpenter and the tile people were so good that we are using Custom Design Works for another project that is now underway (porch enclosure).  Tony and his staff are people you are glad to be working with.  He came and inspected the work of the subcontractors and made sure all was done to perfection."

"First of all, Roger Roten, the B'Dry sales rep was great. Presented their product and their capabilities well and provided very prompt support after the contract was signed. I did the prep work (taking down drywall, etc.) and he responded to my email questions quickly after any inquiry. They scheduled the job for 5/13/2016 and said they would arrive between 8 and 10 AM. Received a call from their installation lead man at 8 am that day to tell me they were coming from Greensboro, NC and would be their by 10. They arrived at 9:45 and immediately went to work. The team included 3 men with "David" acting as the lead man. In looking at the materials that they were to install, it was obvious that everything was high quality; high gauge steel, impressive sump pump, etc. They finished the job and left around 7 pm that day. They did a good job of cleaning up the site before leaving. One thing that really impressed me was that there was no concrete dust all over every thing from the jackhammers. They put up plastic sheeting throughout the basement and covered all furniture and wall hangings. In addition, they used a large fan with flexible plastic tubing to suck the dust to outside. They were careful in their work and nothing was damaged in the finished basement. When they tested the sump pump, the water came out of the basement at a prodigious rate. I believe one could have put a couple of hoses into the sump hole, run them at full blast and the pump would have easily kept up with the water volume coming from those hoses. Their price was not the lowest, but I think it was a fair price given the quality of the materials, workmanship and the accompanying guarantee."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Gloucester Point, VA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
