"Had the pleasure of meeting the working crew of Vernon Shank, the father Dale Shank, and Vernon's son Austin. A valuable addition to the Shank family is Myron. Myron Martin is a fine hardworking wood craftsman that brings his own independent thinking of carpentry skills and building experience to add to the Shank team of builders. Nice seeing Dale Shank continuing working along with the crew. For myself, I enjoyed talking with these guys. Everyone did a great job with my project, listening to my needs, and exceeded any expectations I had. The two porches that needed new framing were built very solid by the Shanks with a commercial like build quality of sistered joists every twelve inches on center, and later topped by myself with a full one inch, solid mahogany tongue and groove flooring hand screwed to their newly installed framing for my 1865 downton Chambersburg residence. Porch is like walking on concrete, being solidly built. I had a difficult time finding contractors capable and qualified I could trust handling the project until Vernon and Dale stopped by for an estimate. My issue was finding contractors that were qualified. I quickly realized Vernon understood the build issues with the long floor joist spans, and he took the time to research and worked out a solid build solution for my project. Vernon is a detail oriented person, very pleasureable to talk to, and will want things right. He listened to my concerns. Estimate was very detail oriented, and thoughtfully written, which, included a drawing. I had nine contractors look at the job, some not wanting to get their work inspected, some not qualified to do the work. Vernon was one of those guys that stood out and knew exactly what was needed, and put me mind at rest in knowing how I wanted the two porches built. They did a fine job that will last my lifetime. Nice to see a multi-generational family business. I highly recommend contacting Shank Builders for looking at your project. They were a great fit for my needs."
