"Tom and his crew were very polite and professional. They worked constantly from the time they arrived until they left at the end of the day. They always cleaned up any mess they made at the end of the day and left the area neat. Chris, worked on the crown mouldings and baseboards and did an excellent job. The crown and the baseboards are beautiful and make the house look so polished. I absolutely love the mouldings and baseboards. The painting was done very well and I am very pleased with every room that was painted. My basement looks fantastic! The flooring and baseboards look spectacular! Tom goes out of his way to insure everything the customer wants is done. He even went with me to Home Depot to pick out the doors and locks. He also did extra tasks that weren't in the contract, such as putting vents in my furnace room because they should be there for safety reasons. I truly appreciated Tom's thoughtfulness in completing jobs in my house because they were needed or would make my home look better. I was very fortunate to find Tom and his crew, because not only were they professional and personable, but they completed all of the work I contracted for and did even more that I didn't ask for. Tom really did treat my home as if it was his and provided high quality work and a great smile too. I highly recommend Tom and his construction company to anyone looking for an honest and fair contractor, who takes pride in the quality of work performed. I only have one project left to do, but I certainly will contact Tom to do that job when I'm ready."

"These guys were great. Fred came out and gave me the quote. He was able to tell me exactly what was wrong and how he was going to fix it. I had other roofers that looked and couldn't tell where the leak was. His son and another man showed up to start the work. They removed my siding and shingles very carefully so it could all be reused after the repair. Then, Fred and the other guy showed up the following morning to complete the job. The picked up all the garbage and you could barely tell they were there. <br /> I would definitely recommend Fred for any roofing work. I just may need him again when I buy my next house. <br />"

"This is the second large project Mike has worked on in our house After I had committed with Mike to re-tile the bathroom shower, I went on a extensive search to find a replacement tile. I was aware that it would be impossible to find an exact match to the rest of the 100 year old tile in the bathroom, but I hoped to find a sensitive replacement. So I scoured the internet for tile suppliers, manufacturers, Ebay, and antique salvage companies-with no luck. Mike was aware of my frustration and proceeded to contact some of his resources, and within a day found the perfect tile! It was a very close match in color (not exact) however since it was only in the shower, the low lighting inside the shower is enough to fool the eye. During demolition, I had Mike salvage as much of the antique tile as possible. There was an old repair around the tub area with mismatched tile, and Mike replaced it with the antique tile salvaged from the shower. Now it all matches perfectly and we are very pleased with the result! As a seasoned historic house owner, I know that things never go as planned. Due to the vibrations created from demolition, an old rusted pipe burst causing damage to the ceiling in the room directly below the bathroom. The plaster ceiling had to be opened up to repair the rusted pipe. I was concerned how the ceiling would look after it was patched up because re-plastering is an art-form. The end product is flawless."

"I called Mr.Robertson about a very large and heavy closet door that I was afraid would come crashing down because one of the hinges had broken. He arrived at my house in about an hour, fixed the door quickly and was gone. I loved that he responded so quickly and seemed very honest and did not make the repair complicated. He is my new Handyman, for sure! <br />"

"Just over a month ago, I contacted two contractors from Angies List. Both replied quickly to my request for a consultation. We were trying to get a desperately needed remodel of my brother's bathroom & front porch repairs! This had to be done before he was released from the hospital...To say this was a rush job would be an understatement! The first contractor Zac, from Design Renovations, met with me and my sister at my brother's home.... Even though Zac appeared quite young,( we're old ),he was obviously extremely knowledgeable. He patiently answered tons of questions from two very stressed out sisters. Zac promised to get back to us quickly with an estimate. Luckily, he and his crew were working on another big project but had some wiggle room while waiting for materials. Fortunately, Zac and owner Rob?s, estimate came back that night and we were relieved that it was well within our budget....We chose to go with Rob and Zac over the other contractor as they were the perfect fit for us! Zac kept in constant contact throughout this project. He gave us a list of everything we needed to choose from Lowes or Home Depot, giving us full rein on design within our budget. We only paid for supplies needed at the beginning of the job and added to an ?escrow account? at Lowes as Zac & crew moved on to the next phase. All in all, it took 16 days exactly to get everything on our list completed. This included a complete demo on bathroom, installing a handicap friendly walk in shower, porch repairs, and a few other small projects...Rob & Zac went over every detail of the work that was done. Even explaining what future upkeep would be required for the tile, etc. The transformation was breathtaking. Our brother?s bathroom now looks like a spa! The repairs made on his front porch made it safe and secure...my brother could safely come home! We were pleased beyond words with Design Renovations work. They came in on budget, kept me updated continuously and left the job site spotless. When our brother came home from the hospital he was speechless! It was far better than he could?ve imagined! He?ll be using Design Renovations for his kitchen remodel in the near future. We highly recommend Rob, Zac and anyone that works for their fantastic company. Bravo men! Five stars!! <br />"

"5 Star was prompt, I didn't have to worry about them not showing up. My experience with this company was 1st the bathroom vanities were ordered the wrong size because he assumed they were a standard size instead of measuring, and I felt like he was trying to convince me to like them, however, new ones were ordered. I remember in the conversation about the vanities, that he said I was to blame also because he sent me pictures, still after the fact that they were already ordered. 2nd the clean up is not to my liking, I am not sure if drop cloths were used, but it didn't seem like it, there was a extra trash can that came from somewhere and I told him that it was not mine, and he asks am I sure. I know what is mine or not. 3rd, I had a puppy bowl that they took upon themselves to use to put what I guess drywall mud in. Why are you using my belongings? There was paint or drywall mud tracked on the garage floor, the owner claimed that it wasn't from them, however, he did clean it."

FAQs for shed, barn or playhouse repair projects in Grosse Pointe, MI

You’ll know it’s time for a new shed roof if shingles curl or buckle, soft spots sag, or water stains appear inside. Moss or other plant growth on the surface is another red flag that moisture has breached the roofing layers. Replacing the roof quickly stops leaks from spreading, protects stored items, and saves you from costlier structural repairs down the road.

Choosing between a flat and a sloped shed roof comes down to climate, budget, and upkeep. A flat roof is cheaper up front, but still needs a slight pitch for drainage. A sloped roof sheds rain and snow more easily, lasts longer, and often needs less maintenance. Weigh your local weather patterns, the look you want, and how much time you’re willing to spend on upkeep before deciding.

A shed roof’s life span hinges on the material you choose and how well you maintain it. Most standard products last 15 to 30 years, while premium picks like slate or clay tile can protect the structure for 50 to 100 years. Regular inspections, fast fixes, and routine cleaning all help you reach the upper end of those ranges and keep your tools and gear dry year-round.
