"Allen Outdoor installed and maintains my irrigation system (since 2003). They also did some landscape for me. The technicians and installers have all (without exception) been professional, accommodating and courteous. They fix things right the first time, explain the work well and deliver when and what they promise. Any "call backs" I have had to require (very very few) were handled, promptly and with a "do the right thing" attitude. I simply can not say enough good things about this organization from the techs to the office to management. I highly recommend them."

"The company did all of the fertilization and weed control for the full season. At the beginning of the year, Kevin walked though all the recommended services for my lawn and allowed me to select those I wanted.  I knew the full cost up front. Larry was very nice when we started the process and stated he would work until we were satisfied.  We had an appointment to meet with him at the property on Dec 1st at 3:00 to look at the walls after we took down the wallboard and cabinets in the kitchen.   The reason we took them down was to save money on labor.  We waited about an hour and called him and got his voicemail.  We left a message and he called us back at around 4:30 saying that he had an emergency call.  It was frustrating to drive 35 minutes to meet him and not receive a courtesy call about the emergency job. 

He later needed to be reimbursed for materials purchased and when we asked for receipts, he said he used his stock at wholesale cost to save us money.

Here are some examples of his wholesale prices directly from the invoice:  

     20 feet of 10 gauge wire for 3 pronged dryer  = $160 (retail is less than $50)

     Paint for kitchen, living room, hallway & bedroom + primer:   12 gal at $20 per = $300 (12 x 20 = $240, not $300)

Other materials seemed higher after retail comparison.

The labor for the job was $800 more than the original bid without any prior notification until the final bill.

We met him and his wife at a public location for final payment and when we questioned the price increase, he got upset and said if we didn't pay his final bill, we would hear from his attorney.  So, we paid the inflated bill and left.

To summarize, the painting and trim work was very nice, but the repair was questionable.  When questioned about the ceiling repair, he seemed offended.  After reluctantly re-doing the ceilings, it turned out nice in the living room. .Just wish the same effort was used on the bedroom which didn't turn out as well.  The counter top and sink were installed well.  The washer/dryer hookup was ok.

I STRONGLY dislike making a bad review on anyone, but we just want you to be an informed consumer.   If you plan to use him, our suggestion would be to have him put on the original bid "materials will be reimbursed from receipts only".  

We've used many contractors from Angie's List, and this is the first bad experience we had.

"After the blistering summer of 2012, and hand watering all of the flowers, shrubs, trees and grass, I decided that we needed an irrigation system. So I called my favorite contractor, Dunn Home Improvements (DHI) to put it in. Josh Dunn and his crew arrived at the appointed time with all of the tools and equipment necessary for the job, professionally dressed and ready to start working.  The first day they installed a new 8 zone irrigation system and used a trencher in the yard and flower beds for the water lines.  The second and third day they laid lines and installed approximately 40 heads, a rain sensor and backflow preventer.  All three days they arrived on time and ready to work.  They also maintain the system by coming out twice a year to start my system in the spring and shut it down in the fall.  They also adjusted any heads that needed it.  They did a great job and answered all of my questions.  Great Customer Service! Now all of my plants are very happy, healthy and beautiful and I didn't have to water anything by hand.  Working with DHI folks is always a pleasure.  DHI is the only number that I call when I want to build, remodel and install.

On Friday, he called to let me know that he was available to come earlier than scheduled, if I would like. He arrived shortly after the phone call, came in and quickly recognized that the pump had failed. He was very knowledgeable and professional.
