"Needed to get gravel driveway repaired quickly. Beaux came out within 12 hours of first contact, gave a quote for the job and had his crew on site working within 2 hours. Completed job that same day and it looks great! Highly recommend Riley’s Asphalt Paving"

"It went well - Ken built the scaffolding one afternoon, and completed the work the next day, I think. He seemed very knowledgeable and wanting to do things correctly - even if it was more work. THis is what we wanted. We didn't want a fix quick that might hold up for a year or two, we wanted a job well done that would last 30 years, and that's what we got. <br />"

"Rick removed a 40 inch, very heavy, circa 1950's gas stove and hauled it away  He cleaned up the area where the stove had been in place for over 50 years.  He repaired the floor and back wall under and behind the old stove and ran a new circuit for the electric outlet behind the stove.  He added a valve to the gas line serving the stove.  He installed a new gas stove in the space <br />"

"The work went very, very smoothly. The installers did an exceptional job with the wall. They paid very close attention to detail, ensuring the wall was absolutely level in relation to the sloped sidewalk, and cleaning up thoroughly when they were finished. We were extremely happy with the end result, and we will be using Cultured Gardens again as we move on to different areas in our yard. The only reservation we had when we got the quote was the price. Much of the total $3100 cost was for the stone material and for the installation. It was more than we wanted to pay, but it ended up being less expensive than the initial quote, and the end result was well worth it. The workmanship was of extremely high quality, and the wall substantially improved our "curb appeal.""

"Employees are very professional yet personable.  Willing to answer any question we had about installation or products being used. They were also very good about cleaning up any mess that was brought about because of construction.  Although we thought the price was a little high, I believe we got what we paid for.  We are planning to use them in the future for other home improvement projects.  <br />"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Harlan, IN

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
