"From beginning to end, Gerry Rose and Paint It LLC did an excellent job painting and patching walls, high ceilings, doors, trim and can lighting replacement. They have a great crew who do it all in a very professional manner. The crew is respectful, communicative, detail oriented, easy to work with and very efficient. The entire project took much less time than other companies quoted and done well. I would definitely hire them again for future projects."

"We built an all-season porch onto what had been the back patio of our house. In conjunction with this addition, we replaced the entire roof of the house. The workers, who were primarily Hispanic, worked long hours 6 days/week to get the job done, well beyond anything we expected. They did good work. We like the finished product, but thought that the construction process was flawed because of negligence and lack of oversight. We had water damage to interior walls and hard wood floors in rooms that abutted the addition because the framing crew either didn't have or didn't use a tarp to cover over the exposed eaves and walls of the house when they left the job on a Saturday. Sure enough, it rained on Sunday and poured on Monday. The contractor took a nonchalant attitude toward the water intrusion, saying it happened on jobs frequently, and they would restore the rooms to the way they had looked prior to the water intrusion. He made no effort to immediately address the water in the walls and flooring by bringing in dehumidifiers, and after nearly a week, the humidity in the house had gone up to 100%, and one of the occupants was having an allergic reaction. We hired another contractor to assist in the water intrusion mitigation. That contractor brought in large dehumidifiers and recommended immediate demolition of the soaked walls. Noah resisted because he had a step-by-step process for building the addition, and demolition of the walls fit into a later step. We eventually were able to persuade him to remove the walls after only a portion of the roof was on. Noah wanted us to relocate during the construction process, presumably because of dust and mold allergies. We are glad that we didn't leave because we were able to answer questions the crew had, show them the location of the fuse box, open the garage doors for access to the fuse box and attic, move cars to allow access to the attic, provide tools when the workers didn't have the appropriate tool, locate the paint for the damaged rooms, and ensure that the correct colors were used. We did leave the premises for 2 long weekends. On one weekend nothing was done. When we returned from the last weekend, we found that the circuit breaker to our garage freezer had been tripped, and all of the food in the freezer was thawed and smelly. Noah blamed that on our cleaning lady's vacuum, which she has used without problem for years. Overall, we are pleased with the finished product but wish that there had been greater oversight and coordination of efforts. For example, a newly completed wall had to be opened because the HVAC wiring had been put in wrong."

"We needed someone on the island to work on our vacation/retirement home. Steve and his crew were outstanding! We added many items to the original deck replacement. Steve handled all the additions and changes without missing a beat. Also made many suggestions that turned out to be outstanding. In addition he added things that we didn't even ask for that were perfect additions. We already have decided to use Steve for future projects this year!"

"Again , KS Home Solutions came thru for me. My 30 year old water heater broke, started leaking from the pressure relief valve! KS came out that afternoon to inspect and assure Mr that I was in no danger of pressure build up or other possible catastrophe. The next afternoon Ken met me at Lowe's and helped me pick out a good replacement (cost effective, good service provider) . They then delivered it that same afternoon removed the old one and installed the new one. Took about 4 hours total (did I mention ** 30 ** years old, over coming all the corroded fittings took most of the time). When they were done they cleaned up everything, moved the old heater and all the cardboard to the curb for pick up. The cost was more than reasonable and we'll worth every penny."

Russell and two of his crew removed two existing powered roof attic ventilation fans from our roof and replaced them with two new fans.  The motor on one of the fans had burned out, and since both fans were the same age, we decided to replace both fans.  The cost of a new motor was about the same as the cost of an entirely new fan.  Russell picked up the new fans on the way to the job site.  The pitch of our roof is very steep, so access to the fans was not easy.  Some roofers will replace these fans but will not disconnect or reconnect the electrical wiring.  Russell and his crew handled the electrical as well.  Access to the fans from the inside of our attic is not practical because of the roof height, so they had to have enough slack in the electrical cable that was attached to enable the fans to be removed and pulled out from above with the wiring still attached.  Russell went into the attic and disconnected the electrical cable from the studs to enable this to be done.  He replaced the electrical cable on one of the fans that was shorter than the other to facilitate its removal if this ever happens again.  He did not charge me for the new cable.  He charged me for the actual cost of the fans plus the labor for his crew.  The new fans are very quiet.  It rained one day after the job was completed and I checked in the attic....there were no leaks around the fans.

The fans are thermostatically controlled, and it was not hot enough the morning that they were installed to cause them to run.  So we could not confirm that they actually would run while Russell and his crew were here.  After they were gone, the attic temperature did get hot enough, and I confirmed that the fans did come on as they are supposed to do.  Russell called the next morning to confirm that they did come the afternoon of the job.

I was very pleased with the job and would definitely use Russell and his crew again.

FAQs for deck or porch projects in Hilton Head Island, SC

Northern white cedar is the most affordable cedar decking type and delivers exceptional value with low material expenditures. This option provides proven cost efficiency, meets essential durability standards, and is easy to paint or stain to meet your aesthetic preferences. By comparison, eastern red and western red cedar supply extra longevity and richer texture for a modest increase in investment.

Yes, cedar is a great choice for decking material. It offers a timeless look and natural resistance to decay and insect damage. Keep in mind that cedar requires regular maintenance, like resealing and cleaning, to keep it in top shape. With proper care, a cedar deck can enhance the appeal and value of your outdoor space for years to come.

No, cedar is not pressure-treated because it contains oils and tannins that naturally resist insect damage, rot, and decay. With regular maintenance, including annual cleaning and resealing every two to three years, cedar maintains its structural integrity and pleasing appearance for 10 to 15 years or more. Cedar’s natural durability, without need for chemical treatments, makes it an environmentally friendly option for outdoor structures like decks.

You should stain or seal your cedar deck every two to three years to maintain its appearance and longevity. This helps protect the wood from moisture, mold, and environmental damage, preserving its natural color and extending its lifespan. Regular maintenance keeps your outdoor space both attractive and durable season after season.
