"Last year we had Daniel install a relatively inexpensive faucet.  Mineral build up causing the faucet to leak at its base.   Replacement of just the washer inside of the assembly would have been difficult to impossible.  The entire interior of the unit was solid white with mineral buildup.   <br> <br>Daniel installed a Kraus faucet. He told us he had never dealt with this brand before.  He patiently explored each part and read the enclosed instructions.  We are very pleased with his results and work ethic.  He is on time and pleasant.  He cleans up after his project is completed.  "

"Outstanding!!! I called Greekz Plumbing on Monday and Steve showed up on Monday afternoon and provided me a fair estimate for the work. I agreed to the estimate and Steve and Craig from Greekz Plumbing showed up the very next day. They were professional, friendly and efficient. They repaired the water line and installed a new shutoff valve adjacent to the house. I am very very please with their outstanding work and I would hire Greekz Plumbing this company again and again, if the need arises. Without hesitation, I highly recommend Greekz Plumbing to anyone who needs the service of a plumber. Greekz Plumbing is professional, reasonable, friendly and timely."

"It went well. Michael called and scheduled both the initial checkout and repair visit in a timely manner. He worked after hours and charged a fair price. He's professional and courteous and kept me informed. I'd recommend this company and call again if needed. <br />"

"Colin Moriyama provided a timely cost estimate, coordinated with us for HOA approval paperwork and signed a complete contract that explained planned work, company's responsibility and our responsibility (and costs) prior to work commencing. Once HOA approval was obtained the scheduling went smoothly, although we encountered a slight delay before work could start. The new roof material had to be special ordered from the mainland (not being in stock on Oahu). The old roofing removal was handled very professionally, the company carefully removed the gutters for future re-use, used drop clothes to collect debris from the old roof as it was removed. The only issue with removal was that our air conditioner condenser was scraped up by old shingle pieces discarded from the roof (a drop cloth over the condenser might've avoided this. I mentioned it to Colin and saw that the condenser had the scuff marks cleaned off the next day. <br /> The new installation went according to plan. While I had been warned that the new shingle nails might protrude through the roof, I was surprised about how much they did so, especially under the eaves, where the wood was thinner than over the house proper. The nail length is required to provide the high wind guarantee for the shingles (Hawaii can get hurricanes on occasion). The old gutters were re-installed with no problem. <br /> In the first rain after the installation we observed some water intrusion into the house, near a skylight in the stairwell. We could only think to attribute this to the recent roofing installation. Colin came immediately, and in the rain, went up on the roof to ascertain the cause and correct it. The problem was with the skylight frame, not the roofing job. He observed where the skylight frame had rusted over the years until a pinhole leak developed. He provided a temporary fix and suggested a skylight company for replacement of the frame. When the suggested company's rep came out to look at our frame, they disagreed that there was a frame problem. I called Colin back and went up on the roof with him to see what he'd found, what the skylight company had not thought a problem. I am well satisfied that Colin correctly assessed the leak source, and that we'll ultimately need to replace the frame. I have not since found a skylight company to perform this replacement, but Colin's short term fix has lasted a year already. <br />"

"The job went smoothly, quickly and the finished product was better than expected. Before the job was started John Merryman and his workers helped to move appliances like the washing machine and the dryer (both into the dining room,) and helped to rip out the vanity and take it outside for the heavy duty trash pick up. The wall in the bathroom had to be opened up (essentially removed) to get at the plumbing and see what they (John and his crew) would be dealing with. Then we were ready to get started. First, John and his workers installed dust barriers throughout the hall and other areas (bedrooms) to try to contain the dust generated from sawing a trench through the slab of the house. There was a TON of dust, which was somewhat contained - basically they did the best job possible. Next they dug the trench (about 12 feet in length, about 2 feet wide) through the hall in through the bathroom. Lots more dust, but again they really tried to contain it as best as possible. They then installed new pipes and drain lines for the kitchen sink dishwasher and washing machine, and re-ran the line and valves for the bathroom sink. After making sure that everything worked as it should they filled and concreted the trench closed. They removed all the dust barriers and cleaned everything in the hall/bathroom area. John and his workers were professional, courteous, conscientious, and prompt. Their first day of work was scheduled from 7:30-?, they showed up 15 minutes early and stayed until about 5:30 that evening. We thought the job would take about 5 days, and they were done in 2 1/2. I would highly recommend John Merryman and his company Low Cost Drain Plumbing."

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Honolulu, HI

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
