"They were prompt and did great work. I had my wiring upgraded from 110 watt to a 220 watt panel. They also had my lighting run off 1 switch witch made my life easier. I would recommend B&K again."

"Contacted S&S via Angies List to get a quote on some electrical work. Scott and his team were very responsive and helpful. It turns out that I did not use S&S for this work at this time, but I wanted to comment favorably on their customer service. Would consider them for future work and recommend others consider them."

"Best experience I’ve had so far being a homeowner. TIm D was very knowledgeable didn’t try to force me to do something else that I didn’t want or make sense to do. I’m actually considering doing my central air sooner than later because of the great finance options they have available. Which is why I didn’t complete the C-wire service it only makes sense to do it all at once under one invoice."

"excellent job on replacing over 40 year old rodent chewed second floor wiring. entire job took about 20 hours or so to complete, probably could of did it quicker if it wasn't for the awful construction of my attic leaving a foot or so to crawl around . also does other types of contracting too, a one stop shop for most of your home improvement jobs ."

"I contacted NRG Electric because we had an emergency situation. The main power connecting to the meter was toast and the panel was getting fried. Josh and Mark came in and identified the issues, made it temporarily safe, got the materials and replaced the meter and panel. They also ensured that the pre-existing wiring, and loads on that wiring was safe. I was without power for a total of 4 hours. They were absolute professionals. When they left there was no sign that they had ever been there other than a new box and panel. Great Service, respected our time and property, ultimately concerned with the safety of my family and property. I will 100% utilize there service again."

"Everything went perfect from start to finish. Chris responded to my inquiry that very evening and we set up a date to have an estimate for the replacement on my old fuse box panel. Randy his technician went through everything in detail that needed to be done to upgrade my sevice to 200 amps and the added safety features. At that point I knew I had the right person for the job. I signed the contract that day to have the work done. Randy and his co-worker (sorry forgot his name) arrived on time and completed the work that day and for the exact price I signed the contract for. I'll be calling them back in September to have more work done. Don't hesitate to call Chris."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Hope, RI

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
