"We were considering replacing the original windows on our 1904 home because many of the opening mechanisms didn't work and switching between storms and screens required dangerous ladder work. Fortunately we discovered Sy and the team at SP Carpentry. They rebuilt 25 antique windows for smooth opening, tighter seams, and new locks where needed. Best of all, they installed their replacement storm windows that have integrated screens hidden to keep the original look on the exterior of the house. No more ladder adventures! We saved many thousands of dollars versus new windows and avoided scrapping the finely crafted originals. SP showed a sensitivity to our historic home that we didn't see in other window contractors - even using antique rippled glass to replace a cracked pane. The crew was very polite, project management and cleanup was excellent."

"My home had several windows with defective panes of glass: one cracked, a dozen fogged up to varying degrees due to broken seals. Reading online reviews, two companies stood out. I had representatives from both come out to measure and provide bids. Both bids were reasonable, and I knew I couldn’t go wrong with either company, but in the end, I’m glad I went with Trustworthy Glass. I can’t recommend them highly enough! From start to finish everything went smoothly. Becky, who does customer service was very responsive throughout the process, and I liked that Andy, Jr., who came to survey the windows, took his time and clearly knew what he was doing. By the time he left, I felt confident that Trustworthy would do a good job. Andy provided a detailed bid in a timely manner and was quick to respond to a couple of follow-up questions. One of the things that I most appreciate about Trustworthy is that it’s a family-owned and run business, and that it’s family who’s doing and overseeing the work. The crew that came to do the work was great. Work on my house took two mornings. The first morning a crew of three, led by Andy, Sr., replaced glass on first floor windows and one upstairs. They were efficient and did high-quality work. The following day, son Ryan returned with a co-worker, equipped to replace glass on the remaining upper windows. Everyone was friendly, professional, and diligent. They clearly care about the quality of their work--and they were great about wearing protective foot gear and masks, and cleaning up…so that once they left, there was nothing for me to do but enjoy the windows. A neighbor, the president of my association, had one window replaced in her house. She said she would give Trustworthy an A+. I wholeheartedly concur!"

"I had a kitchen window shatter from it being -20 degrees and was able to call them in to get it inspected quickly. When it was time to install the new glass Mr. Jeremy Glass was had been in communication with me to let me know his ETA, was able to replace the section of broken glass, and was able to re-install the window in the correct way vs how the house flippers before me decided to install it. Mr. Jeremy Glass was friendly, professional, and able to get everything done in less than 30 minutes."

"Fantastic--Alex is prompt and does excellent work. I had all of the very old window screens in my home replaced, including one screen that needed to be made from scratch due to a bent frame. A few years ago, Alex made a new frame for a screened patio door with great results, so I asked him to redo the screens on the windows this year. Alex arrived promptly, removed the window screens, replaced the screens, made a new frame and screen for one window, and then put the window screens back in. He worked efficiently, is friendly, and his price was more than reasonable. I'm very happy with my new screens and just as happy that I know who to call if I need additional work--Alex aka The Screen Guy. Thanks, Alex!"

FAQs for door or window screens install or repair projects in Hopkins, MN

Most off-the-shelf screens come in fixed sizes, ranging from 18 inches by 20 inches to 36 inches by 74 inches, which fit the vast majority of residential windows. If your opening falls outside that range or has a unique shape, you’ll need a custom screen built to the exact measurements. Going custom ensures a secure fit, a solid barrier against bugs, and a clean, finished look.

The decision to repair or replace your screen depends on the extent of the damage. Small holes or tears in otherwise solid mesh can be patched, and a sturdy frame usually doesn’t need to go anywhere. However, once the frame is bent or the mesh is brittle and fraying in several spots, replacement becomes a more sensible option—and often proves to be less costly in the long run. Take a close look at both parts before making a decision.

To rescreen a window, start by prying out the old spline, then lift the torn mesh from the frame. Lay the new screen over the frame, allowing about an inch of excess on all sides, and hold it in place while pressing fresh spline into the groove with a roller. Check that the mesh is taut—many pros rest a small brick on it while they work—then trim the overhang with a utility knife.

Most window screens last for 10 to 12 years. Time, sun, and weather gradually make the mesh brittle, so you’ll start to see sagging, rips, or thinning spots that let bugs get through. Check the screens each season; if the mesh crumbles or the frame warps, it’s time to replace them to keep air flowing and pests outside.

Most pros can swap out a screen in 10 minutes to an hour. A quick pop‑in replacement goes fastest, while fitting new mesh into an existing frame or working on a hard‑to‑reach upper window adds time. Either way, plan for at least a few extra minutes per screen so the installer can verify the fit and ensure the spline is seated correctly.
