"MAC Group did a wonderful job fixing our hill slip and installing a large block retaining wall in front of our home. The work crew Salem, Brandon, Jeremy and Ricky did a great job and were very courteous, diligent, and professional during this project. Even the neighbors walking by commented how courteous the work crew was. Even though this was the first time this team had installed a large block retaining wall, they did an excellent job completing the work and ensuring the excavation, drainage, installation, backfill, and final grading were completed per the Geotechnical Engineers design. The foreman Jacob even moved a couple of small trees for us at the beginning of the project which is much appreciated! We are very pleased with the result and highly recommend MAC Group to anyone considering them for their next project! Thanks again for all your help! David "

"Overall it went well. We got a later start due some mechanical problems while picking up supplies. But Bradley worked in the dark to get the job done. It was a long day for him and his helper Mark, and due to the costs he had to incur on his equipment, I know he barely made anything on the job, but the estimate he gave is pretty much what I paid."

"Went very well. The company was a pleasure to deal with in all respects and did what they said, on schedule. It was a major job that involved excavating under a porch and extending drainage lines way into the back yard, completed over a couple of weeks. At the end of the project, I believed that the slope of a section of the reconstructed front walk was not quite right. Randy had his guys back out here within a couple of days to redo it. We'd had a major water problem in the basement since buying the house over 10 years ago. CWI did the waterproofing in the spring, and we've had a couple of long, heavy rains since then. Basement is now completely dry."

"I have not started any work yet. They came out and looked at my yard. Probably three or four days after that they called with an estimate. The estimated price is roughly $5,000. So far I have nothing to dislike about them; we have not moved very far into the project yet. I decided to go with them because their reputation around here was pretty good and they were one of the first people to actually get back to me with a quote. I am waiting on them to tell me when the supplies are here; then they will start working."

"Workers Larry and Brian showed up every day by 9am. They were happy to keep us updated on all progress and verify our instructions if anything was unclear or needed our decision. Rainy days slowed some of the outside work, but everything was completed to our satisfaction."

"I hired Alltek to install a drainage system in my crawlspace. This company was very helpful and the quality of the work was awesome. The salesman came to my house, explained everything in detail and the estimate was FREE! I had gotten estimates from other companies and Alltek was by far the cheapest but the quality of the work was shocking. They were able to start my job within weeks of the estimate and when the workers showed up they were prompt and very friendly. They put a drainage system in with a sump pump and fully encapsulated the space. I would highly recommend Alltek for any of your basement or crawlspace needs. While they were here I also learned they do roofs and other misc jobs. I will be calling them for my roof replacement next. Great company and employees"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Huntington, WV

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
