"From the estimate to the installation of the heat pump, Denny Young and his crew were great. Punctual, friendly, and professional. They installed the whole system in less that a day, and Denny came back the next day to make sure I was happy with the system and knew how to operate it. I am pleased with my experience and would recommend Young Electric to anyone."

"I called Hammer Down construction to come give me a bid to build a custom desk in my office as well as replace some worn French doors and a side door into my garage.  During the bid process Jamie Adams (the owner of Hammer Down) was very attentive and brought up many options which ultimately resulted in me saving about $400.00 in materials.  Jamie asked many questions to ensure that he and I were on the same page and when he and his crew arrived to complete the work they were very professional, worked quickly and did high quality work.  When the job was done you could not tell any construction crew had been in my home.  The cleanup and finish work by Hammer Down was done very well.  I will definitely use them again for future construction needs."

"<p>My basement was an absolute disaster! I called Sweet's & they responded right away staying till around 2:30 am to make sure everything had been cleaned up & disinfected. After about a week of running fans to dry everything out, they did the restoration work in my basement which took about a week or so to complete. They told me that I could go to Lowe's & pick out new fixtures, doors, etc. The restoration work turned out nice, although the quality of the materials used were less expensive than the original building materials. (My house was built in the 1960s, so it had natural pine doors & wood moldings that were replaced with MDF.)</p> <p>Then, I got the bill! Yes, it was costly but Richard at Sweet's negotiated with the insurance adjuster and after 9 months my insurance company finally paid.</p> <p>What I most impressed with was Sweet's immediate response to an "after hours" emergency and their patience in getting paid.<br /> <br /></p> <br />"

"we just bought a house in June 2010 and the toilet was leaking for a long time underneath the carpet and we didn't know it.  The home inspection didn't pick it up either.  when we were remodeling the bathroom and pulled up the carpet, the whole floor underneath was rotten and wet.  Mike from advanced came out the same day, tore out the damaged wet wood, cleaned up the mold, placed fans to dry up everything over night.  The next day they were here bright and early, replaced the floor and even laid down new tile.  They were very clean and professional.  They were much cheaper then most of the people we called for estimate.  We also had them come back for another job.  Our water heater busted and soaked the basement floor.  They cam dried it all up and replaced the water heater all with in 4 hours. "

"Very good quality.  Only complaint is I would have liked the basement done by August and I made the initial contact in February.  Not sure if that's a typical amount of time to get that done.  Seemed like they were busy.  Overall we are very happy with the end product.  Randy was good about keeping us informed as to what came next and possesses a good personality."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Island-Park, ID

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
