"Ben did a wonderful job on our kitchen remodel which included removal of a wall, new island built with cabinets, new flooring and general kitchen remodel. Ben clearly has a passion for cabinetry and woodworking. We have received wonderful comments on his cabinets and woodworking from friends and other vendors we used (counter install company). Only opportunity we saw for improvement were a couple small things which included price and services performed when a 3rd party contractor was hired by Ben. Overall would give an A and look forward to working with Wooden Hammer in the future."

"The entire team was meticulous and did an excellent job.  Attention to detail and professionalism, as well as craftsmanship were excellent by all of Lakewood's employees.  Bob, the owner provided a detailed estimate after taking measurements.  The bathroom rotten wall repair job was an add-on to the project as the rot was discovered after project started.  We were given the choice to have this done with time & materials or estimated.  We chose T&M and the price was right.  The project took longer than anticipated but it wasn't Lakewood's fault... Harvey shipped the wrong window twice, and one of the Thermatru doors was broken and had to be replaced, both of which were promptly done at no extra cost.  Dan, Dave and Jim were friendly, respectful and very efficient and always showed up on time.  We now have peace of mind knowing our house no longer has any rot inside the walls, and we love the extra sunlight from the beautiful new living room window and the two new storm doors.  We also now know our dryer will be more efficient and safer with the exhaust properly installed.  Lakewood Construction may charge a bit more than other contractors but do provide peace of mind, use excellent quality products and the added value of their design suggestions was extremely useful and ended up making our home great.  We hope to use them again for future projects. <br />"

"Went Well, Looks Great. <br /> <br /> I've Used Greg with Fine Finish Remodel for many years. He has remodeled my kitchen, built some custom cabinets, replaced the old vinyl floor with Oak hardwood.  He has raised my sinking roof line in the attic and created supports to rectify the cause. He has a replaced a shower enclosure in a condo I rent out. He has also fixed the ceiling and replaced the cabinets after a water leak in the condo.  He has always done a quality job at a fair price. I like using Greg at Fine Finish remodel because I know I can trust him to do the job right and not cheat me with sub quality work."

"Top notch professionals. Build it Dan has done an amazing job each time they have done work on our home. Their employees are always on time, and work hard to get the job done in a timely manner. I absolutely highly recommend Build it Dan for any general or construction needs. We have been lucky to have worked together on several projects and the offer only quality work. Basement - I had great experience with the basement walk in remodeling. From the beginning Build it Dan was transparent with cost and was updated on the schedule. The team is professionals, skilled and always left my house clean. Always available to answer questions and responsive to any additions. We are completely satisfied and highly recommend BID for as my projects you may have. Backyard - they did suck a great job and were quick and efficient. Looks amazing and everyone always compliments the work. The step up was an awesome touch. The entire family is excited with the backyard and can’t wait to continue making memories. Thank you"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Jeffersonville, VT

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
