"A month ago, I met with the company president to discuss refinishing two of the marble floors in my home.  During that meeting, the president noticed that I could possibly have more damage UNDER my floors by the way one of my marble tiles had broken.  He was absolutely correct.  I had a contractor look at the damage and he confirmed that there was damage to my subfloor that needed to be fixed.  After having another company repair the floor, I asked Dustin Nichols, President of SOLID ROCK REFINISHING COMPANY to come and refinish the newly repaired foyer and master bathroom.  His brother in law, Eric, who also works at the company, and a crew of men came to my home on the date agreed to and at the correct time.  During the first day of the job I learned about the other services this company does.  During the next two days, I had this team and the president fix broken ceramic tile in another bathroom, refinish the two marble floors, they cleaned the grout in three ceramic tile bathrooms, fixed two counter tops of cultured marble, and seal four bathrooms so that mildew can not grow on the grout.  They did all of these services for the original price.  I am thrilled with their service and the work done. <br />"

"Wilson Grading showed up when they said they would and they stayed late to complete the job in one day. They did everything they said they were going to do and a couple of extra things that were small, but showed me they had my best interests in mind. I plan to use them in the future when I have dirt hauled in to build a pad in my pasture."

"The tile was installed on the diagonal which took a lot more planning and cutting.  It looks spectacular and everyone who comes over comments on it.  There is a lot of variation in the tile and Gary and Jason took the time to think about where to place each tile so that although it looks random, there are no places where there is too much light tile or too much dark tile.  As soon as we saw it, we knew that a lot of thought went into the tile placement. <br /> In the bathrooms, they built shampoo boxes in the tile and also were responsible for the placement of tile trim in one of the bathrooms.  In the second bathroom they installed river rock on the floor of the shower and also on an area of the floor.  It was Jason's idea to do a free form shape as if the river rocks were an area rug. That required a lot of extra cutting and planning. <br /> The  backsplash in the kitchen was also installed by them and, as with everything else, they took a lot of care and pride in their work. <br /> Gary and Jason are more than expert tile installers, they are really artists.  Terry Johnson and her whole crew are responsive and professional.  Terry and Vera were a great help in selecting the tile and made the choice of grout easy.  I totally trust their judgement. <br /> This was a big and time-consuming job but I am thrilled with the results and can't recommend them highly enough."

"Said he would arrive around 1PM on first day and was here at exactly 1PM. His crew was very nice and easy to deal with. Did an outstanding job of cleanup and removal and was very efficient in doing all that was requested of him. Would definitely recommend him to friends and neighbors. Will definitely use him again. <br />"

"Same as above- <br /> We really liked the people there, and enjoyed going through the slabs. The company was very patient with us as we took up a lot of their time. We only chose another company to do our work because I didn't like having the countertop's seam located at the middle of the sink, which, from our conversations with them, was the only option. If that's not an issue for you, I would recommend them just for their helpful nature and willingness to spend time with someone who they don't know will hire them. (I can't speak for their actual installation work.)"

"We called Mountain Advantage as it was close to us and Marty Peters came and told us what he could do.  He said he would send us an estimate and when he could start the job.  We received a timely email from him with the estimate and roughly when they could begin the job.  We had a lot of rain after that and they were not able to began as soon as they wanted as they had to complete other jobs and the rain interferred for about a week.  They completed the job and we have requested they give us estimates on several other jobs we would like to have done.We have pictures before and after if anyone would like to see them."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Kill Devil Hills, NC

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
