"My previous electrician had sadly done a terrible job performing my panel upgrade from 100a to 200a. Also, the permitting stages were not followed and I was unfortunately not compliant because of it. After shopping around for many electricians, I eventually met Mike and knew he was the guy that I was going to work with. Mike explained every detail one step at a time. My project was a large project since I was to not only rewire my 200amp panel, we had to fix grounding, water bonding, and also Trench 4 feet deep for SDGE to upgrade our line from 100a to 200a as well. This was a long and stressful process that became super easy because of the effort and work put in by Mike and his team. Mike was here for all of the permitting stages whenever the city or SDGE was here, so that he could answer all their questions and concerns directly. Mike will continue being my electrician from now on. I highly suggest MIke and his team for all of your electrician needs. They are very quick to answer phone calls, text messages, explain all processes and next steps. Super fortunate to have Mike on my home improvement team."

"Excellence Electric is just that: excellent on every level. They did a panel upgrade and install of a level 2 electric car charger. The company is family owned (father and son). They did a tremendous job at a very good price. Their attention to detail and workmanship was remarkable. They had to run conduit up the back of my house. They matched the paint at Home Depot that perfectly blended with our house color. Such personable, honest people. Ray jr. told me as he was walking from the job: any problems, or concerns, we’ll take care of it no questions asked. I could not more highly recommend!"

"I was having trouble with my electrical panel and my solar company would not help me. I called JVec and they actually answered the phone. They came out the next day and were able to resolve the problem. They were knowledgable and did a good job of explaining what was wrong. I would hire them again."

"My husband and I are first time home buyers and had to get some work done on our new house. We had no idea who to call or what we were really looking for, besides the work we needed done. After speaking to a few other electricians and getting quotes, Citywide stood out because of their customer service, punctuality, and how informative they were. Raul and Manuel were really nice and explained everything to us. Manuel's work was great, he left everything clean, in working condition and explained the work step by step to us. We not only had the work done but we also learned about our houses electrical through this process."

"Great service. They ran wiring for two ceiling fans where there was no existing lighting and hung the fans all in just a few hours. Very good clean work and reasonable price. Will definitely recommend to friends."

"My dad actually found Ryan working on our neighbor’s electrical panel and poached him! I needed a panel upgrade, and Ryan completed the work efficiently and very well. He was very responsive and thorough with his work. He took the time to explain everything and was a pleasure to work with. He made the entire process so easy. Definitely helps to have a licensed electrician who can work directly with SCE and pull permits from the city. 10/10 recommend. THANK YOU, RYAN!"

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in La Palma, CA

While homeowners with substantial electrical knowledge might technically attempt a subpanel installation, most local building departments require permits and inspections for this type of work. Professional electricians understand local code requirements, can obtain necessary permits, and ensure the installation meets safety standards. Given the significant safety risks associated with incorrect electrical work, most homeowners benefit from hiring a licensed professional.

A standard subpanel installation takes an average of four to eight hours. This timeframe may extend if you're installing multiple subpanels or adding specialized circuits like those for spa equipment. Factors such as difficult access points, complex wiring paths, or permit processing times can also affect the overall project duration.

Adding a subpanel doesn't directly reduce electricity consumption or lower your utility bills. A subpanel simply redistributes power from your main panel to additional circuits. However, organizing your electrical system more efficiently may help prevent overloaded circuits and the associated problems. For actual cost savings, consider energy-efficient appliances and lighting instead.

The appropriate subpanel size depends on your specific electrical requirements. Consider the number and type of devices you'll be powering, potential future needs, and the capacity of your main electrical panel. An electrician can perform a load calculation to determine the most suitable amperage rating for your situation, ensuring you have adequate power without overpaying for unnecessary capacity.

A main electrical panel connects directly to your utility's power supply and contains your home's primary service disconnect. It distributes electricity throughout your entire house. A subpanel, by contrast, receives power from the main panel and redistributes it to a specific area of your home. Think of the main panel as the primary distribution point and the subpanel as a secondary branch that extends your electrical system's reach.

While electrical upgrades aren't as immediately visible as kitchen or bathroom renovations, they can contribute to your home's functionality and safety. Prospective buyers often appreciate updated electrical systems that can accommodate modern power demands. A properly installed subpanel that provides additional capacity for workshops, home offices, or future expansions could be an attractive feature for certain buyers, though the direct impact on home value varies by market.
