Customers say: Terrific value

"I can’t even say enough great things about this company. The owner and his crew were outstanding! Did such a great job on our garage addition. They were so patient and understanding. The owner (Frank) even came with me to the city appeal hearing. A+ communication. Reasonably priced. Would I recommend him to family? He IS family. I am so grateful I found him on Angi’s list and hired him for this project. I highly recommend him!"

"Great experience with True North Developers. They did a gut renovation to my kitchen and adjoining laundry room and the results are stunning. Great quality materials and completed to my specifications. They also painted inside and outside, installed new tile to my foyer floor, and demolished my old deck in the back and rebuilt a beautiful new deck with new stairs and finished screened porch with electrical. We look forward to more projects with them as we bring this 1965 ranch into this century. They were very professional, and very easy to work with. They listened and made any adjustments needed. All their subs were top notch. They also cleaned up when they finished and sent a cleaning crew to finish the job. "

"Fred was outstanding. We started our home renovation by converting part of a bonus room into a bedroom with 2 closets. Then, he converted a storage closet into a full bathroom by bringing plumbing up into our top floor. We were so pleased with that project, we asked him to do a complete kitchen remodel and replaced the floors in our first floor. Fred was efficient and affordable. His work turned out great and he offered expertise and knowledge along the way to make sure we were happy with the finished product. Our family feels like we have a brand new home thanks to Fred!"

"Walter and Son’s LLC did a fantastic job on my kitchen facelift! Amazing work was completed without subcontractors. Walter’s sons, Mike, Mitchell and Andrew handled the complete job from start to finish with the upmost professionalism and courtesy. My kitchen upgrade included: subway Tile backsplash, granite countertop, complete cabinet resurfacing and painting wall & trim. They went above and beyond to correct a minor plumbing problem and installed two new light fixtures."

"BUYER BEWARE !! I purchased a new home from Universal in Wright Farms. I can’t say that I can come up with a single positive experience with them throughout the process. First off the quality of the home is nowhere near the price point. They use the cheapest material build to the minimal standards(sometimes not even that) with the cheapest labor they can find. Many aspects of my home are starting to fall apart in the first year and good luck getting them to respond to any type of warranty work without you borderline harassing them and even the. They won’t respond. The overall business is unprofessional and only care about profits. If you ever bring up an issue you have with your home they completely disregard it if they can’t strong arm their contracted work into repairs. As for the yard, it’s a total joke . They bring in the worst possible dirt full of trash, rocks and debris sprinkle some seed in a couple spots and cal it a day. Not a single person has been able to have a nice lawn without dumping an additional 10+k into sod. Before you look at purchasing a home from Universal I would advise you to knock on any door in any of their neighborhoods and they will tell you the exact same thing I have shared. If I was to do this again I would have never purchased a home from them."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in La Vergne, TN

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
