"Finishing Touch Landscaping exceeded all my expectations! Our property had a problem of water runoff causing serious soil erosion that required some excavation, installation of an extended drainage system, installation of railroad ties, topsoil and regrading. The cost estimate was very competitive with other local landscapers and all work was done in a very professional manner. Frank Davis is more than just a landscaper; he is an experienced problem-solver and came up with suggestions that added value to the project without exceeding the budget. He has experienced workmen and makes it his business to supervise the project in person."

"Kyle did an awesome job on my driveway. Best part I didn't need to buy new gravel. He was very professional and friendly. I will definitely be using him again when I need something done around the house in the future. "

"The Davey Tree Expert Company Today me and my husband thought we were going to cut down a tree. And my husband did a great job to start but the dang tree wouldn't fall. Being afraid that the tree would fall the wrong way we had to call out for help from some experts. We had one to come by and he decided that the tree was in a dangerous state and we were told that it would take a team and two days to get it all taken care of and also it would be 6 weeks before they could get it. Called one more Davey tree expert company. They sent a gentleman named Kyle and right away he ran to take a look at it and then ran to his car and pulled out a rope. He then proceeded to tie the rope to the tree and then another and created a pully system. And in 20 minutes with our help the tree was down. He was a wonderful person to just jump in an start working with it. Very knowledgable and professional and fixed our worries fast. We were afraid the tree would fall the wrong way and he fix it all."

"<p>Basile cut my lawn every week.  They were prompt, dependable and always did an excellent job with all trimmings cleaned up.  If for some reason I needed them to skip a week (new grass) it was easy to just send an email and the schedule was immediately adjusted with consistent communication about the change.  </p> <p>I also had them install metal edging on two garden beds. Installation was clean, secure and as planned.  (I laid out the string as a guide.)  I was disappointed that on this job, while the edging was installed properly, there was no attempt to clear the surface of grass within the edging.  For the $400, they did what I would consider the minimum necessary to complete it.....but I had to go back later and finish the surrounding area.</p> <p>I will use their service again next summer for the lawn.  Good response and customer service attitude from everyone in the company.  </p> . <br />"

"In one of those rare cases of perfect timing, a few days after I subscribed to Angie's List their Big Deal was 48" granite countertop replacement for $349.  I was in the process of getting bids from other contractors for a 48" granite wet bar top replacement, the first of which had just come in obscenely high, so it was a no-brainer to take advantage of this Big Deal. <br /> <br /> The first step was to set up an appointment to take measurements, a few days after which we went to look at the stone samples at Solid Surface Resources.  The one we liked most was a few inches too small so we went with our second choice.  I think the Big Deal offer was meant for a bathroom vanity but they were flexible in making it work for a bar install. Installation was quick and painless, though I had to remove the old bartop / sink (due to the deal terms) and, post-install, redo the plumbing because it interfered with the sink. <br /> <br /> End result - it's awesome!  Their work was first-rate and their communication and follow-through was appreciated."

"I hired Quality Waterproofing to extend a buried downspout/sump pump drain that was poorly placed by a competitor 4 years ago. The competitor placed the pop up drain 10 feet from the house in a low spot, which created a swamp. Quality did an A+ job fixing the problem. They were timely, professional and UNDER budget. Very honest and high quality work. They even did some extra sodding and dirt work at no charge."

"The company completed the driveway on-time without major issues; however, shortly after installation there were several micro-cracks. I've had a number of concrete professionals look at the driveway and note that a lower quality concrete mix was used, causing a significant amount of micro-cracks. As a result, I expect the useful life of the driveway to be shorter. Overall, the driveway (now 3 years old) has not experienced any major cracking except one moderate support crack and the micro-cracking."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Lake Saint Louis, MO

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
