"In the Fall of 2020, my husband and I decided to remodel our run down 1978 home. We were spending more time at home due to Covid, and we were ready to finally make our home into a peaceful sanctuary for our family. After living here for almost 20 years, our “To Do” list had grown rather long. We needed windows, siding, bathrooms (no longer set in the 70’s), and more room in our 1500 sq ft dwelling. We excitedly met with an architect to see how we could extend our house and add more windows and natural light in the process. We had the plans and were ready to start construction. Then, the general contractor we had chosen ghosted us. Knowing that this was going to be a big job that would require a very large chunk of change, we knew we needed to make an informed decision. We already had trust issues after having chosen a contractor recommended by a friend who flaked out on us. So, it’s a big deal to make a decision about who is going to redo your home into a place that you will love and enjoy, stay on time, on budget and use our money wisely. This was our first major home project and we planned to meet with several contractors to find out how the process would work and how they could stay within our budget. We looked on Yelp first and searched for someone in our general location, (we love to support our local businesses). The first listing was Alter Construction. The reviews mentioned “responsive”,” great communication'', “trustworthy'', “best materials”, “great craftsmanship,” all the things that you’d want in a general contractor. I checked out their website and really liked what I saw, so I filled out the form and got an immediate response to set up a phone call the next day. After speaking to Eli for the first time, I got a warm and friendly vibe. We set up a meeting at our home to discuss the project and when Eli and Cynthia came over we talked about what we wanted to accomplish and let them know that this remodel would totally change our quality of life going forward. They showed us some photos of their previous jobs and their qualifications were obvious, all of the projects were amazing. The happy client testimonials spoke to Eli and Cynthia’s character and genuine desire to help us reach the quality of life we had longed for for many, many years. Needless to say, we never met with any other contractors, our minds were made up during that first meeting to work with Eli and Cynthia at Alter Construction. We went back and forth via email about what we needed and at our next meeting, we went over the scope of work, timeline, total cost of the project and the payment scheduled. We gave them a check as a deposit, but Eli let us know that until the City’s permits were in hand, no money would be deposited. Once the permitting process was complete, work went fast. We completely moved out and 5 months later, we were back in a BRAND NEW HOME! We did have a bit of a delay during the project waiting on the City inspectors, but the communication between us and Alter was constant. We felt very comfortable calling or texting and Eli was always available and he treated our home with special love and care as if it were his own. Eli is a perfectionist and is always the first to notice if any little thing is off and is quick to reply with, “I’ll fix it!” or “I’m on it!” and he is! The end result is stunning, we have so much more space, our bathrooms are gorgeous, the exterior is perfect and EVERYTHING inside and out is new and improved! We really formed a nice friendship with Eli and Cynthia and miss not talking to them as regularly as before. They are amazing, honest and trustworthy people who really care about you and want the best for you.They are more than happy to help your remodeling dreams come true."

"Went great, came inside with a great attitude. Had all the necessary tools and even had a vacuum when the granite needed to be cut to prevent a mess. He cleaned as he kept working in between. The sink looks beautiful and he double checked for leaks and paid attention to detail. I highly recommend him any home jobs and I am definitely giving him another call with another project."

"As a client we took the approach of calling multiple contractors to try to find the best deal possible. However, ACE was the second appointment we had in our home. At the meeting with their project manager we realized no matter how many contractors we spoke with we had to trust our got feeling rather then let the price control our decision making. We did a full kitchen remodel with ACE We worked directly with PM Jason very responsible and responsive to questions throughout the process. We did have minor changes but Jason was able to find solutions while maintaining the same deadline. Overall the organization and communication is what did it for us! "This project took considerably longer than the company originally estimated; and, within weeks of completion, two plumbing issues occurred that required some of the work to be redone. During the design phase, the architect went on vacation. While the estimated project completion was not impacted (the estimate did not include the design phase), it did lengthen the time we'd allotted to have the project completed. Also, during the project, there appeared to be a problem between the company's project manager and at least two of the subcontractors. During the shower "tiling phase", the company's "project manager" actually did some of the tiling work himself. The work was then transferred to a subcontractor. In fact, we are pleased with the final product; however, a minor plumbing issue (behind the tile) remains that we have not had corrected. Further, prior to the tiling phase, Austin Handyman referred us to several local sources from which to chose the specific tile we wanted. After visiting all locations, we selected tile from one. As the actual date for the tiling approached and we were well passed our target completion date, I agreed and picked up the tile and associated work material, transported it to the house, and staged it for use by the tiling subcontractor. Had I not done this, the project would have been further delayed. Also, the company subcontracted out the glass work associated with the shower. Again, we are well pleased with the final product; but, the subcontractor had to be recalled to correct a leak/leaks. A final annoying fact was that Austin Handyman sent us a final invoice for payment prior to the work actually being completed. When I called the company, the billing department was unaware that the project wasn't done. The company apologized and retracted the billing statement; but, I didn't feel it was professional for the billing department to not confirm work completion before sending out the final notice. Please note, this work was done during 2014, nearly three years ago. While we are generally pleased with the final outcome, we have deferred other renovation work due to the challenges we faced with this project."

"I enjoyed working with Beau. He understood exactly what I wanted done. He make a few suggestions which kept me from making some major mistakes (like locking in my fridge if I extended the island). Beau communicated with me regularly through the whole process.. The different teams did I great job. Again, they worked closely with me to be sure the outcome would match my vision. I love my house. I would not change one thing that was done.. My home has 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, formal living and dining, family room, breakfast room, laundry room, and kitchen (3000 sq ft). It took a total of 10 weeks to be the job completed due to the carpet selected being on back order. My only complain was the wholesaler used. Not all the items I selected was not ordered and the quantities were not correct on a few things. This lead to the delay in completion of the project. This was not on Beau."

That puts more pressure on him to get work for his team so his clients don't have the stress of being at the mercy of sub-contractors. Paul is a bright, personable, caring, honest, knowledgeable and thoughtful guy. He always answers his phone and is willing to take the time to explain things. He sends detailed emails with a project timeline and budget breakdown so you always know what is going on. When things have come up after the project was finished, he sends his guys over to address them. I think all of these things are quite unique in a contractor. That is why I give Paul and Patriot Construction 5 stars."

"Everything went well! I was told the exact type of siding to purchase ahead of time in order to do the repair which they were able to determine from a photo of the wood rot. The contractor came on time, was courteous, and finished the job quickly. The side of the house looks as good as new."
