"I hired Paco and his crew to build a large set of brick steps leading up to my front porch. They did a great job! Communication was excellent, quality of work was excellent, and all for a very fair price. I would definitely recommend Gallardo Custom Builds."

"Built a deck for us, they showed up when they said they would and now days that is huge. They did exactly what we wanted and more. We live in Bella Vista, for those that don't know, Bella Vista is a POA community and has a reputation of being hard to deal with when it comes to builders. The inspector said when he checked their work when done, that they had done a very good job, everything was done right and said he would strongly recommend them. For Bella Vista that's big, really big. Thank you for all you've done for us and God bless you both"

"I am over joyed at the work that David and his crew did on our home. David came in and assessed the damage that was done to our front room. At first we thought it was a simple repair but when David started looking around he went under the house and found that almost all of our floor joice's were rotted. It ended up being a much bigger job than what we first thought but David make sure that we understood exactly what was going on every step of the way. He and his crew were here every day on time and ready to work. The problem ended up being more than just our front room floor it went into the Hall the back bedroom and the kitchen dining room area. David was able to go in under the floor and replace the Joices that were rotted saving a substantial amount of time and money by not having to pull up the dining room kitchen tile and floor. It would have been a lot easier for he and his crew and a lot more profitable if they just would have pulled up all the tile and the flooring and replaced the Joyce that way. But, instead they worked on their backs replacing all my floor joices so that it would save us money. When everything was done and he was replacing the front room floor we had ideas of changing the flooring from carpet to ceramic tile David and his crew were able to come in and Lay the tile exactly how we wanted it and it looks perfect, so not only is he and his crew great Carpenters but they are also wonderful Masons. We are so confident in David's abilities that we have hired him on for anothet bigger project. I would definitely recommend David and his crew at right angle to all my friends and family he and his crew are hard-working reliable and affordable professionals. I'm very grateful to David, he and his crew did a wonderful job and I love my front room."

"We had a tree fall on our house during the recent storms. We got the tree removed and found 5 holes in our roof. We called everyone and they were all a week out. With rain coming we were panicking, until I spoke to Tom. Tom had his crew here within 4 hours to patch up our roof, even though it was getting dark. What great service. Thanks Tom and the crew!!"

"They were on time, courteous and careful with my belongings. Had already moved some things away from the walls and found that the way they put them back was a better arrangement! Didn't pay for interior design service but inadvertently got it ;-).

-------

Here we are a few weeks later and I happened to look under the bed in the master bedroom. The bed is new and was assembled in the room this past July. During the painting, the first day there were two workers who moved the bed. On the second day, there was only one. That one person moved the bed back after the painting and because it was not picked up, the center leg under the frame was broken loose. When I saw that on Friday, 1/8, I called Mr. Vargas, who answered his phone. He argued that there had been two men on the second day so the damage could not have happened. I assured him that was not the case and he made an appointment to look at the bed on Monday 1/11 between 11 and 12. At 2:30 on Monday, I still had not heard from Mr. Vargas so called and left a message to ask him to come after 4 or on the next day. He did not come either time, nor did he call back. I texted him on Wednesday, 1/15 and still no response.

I'm sorry to report this, I was happy with their work and intended to give them a great deal more work in the future."

FAQs for deck or porch projects in Lincoln, AR

To maximize your budget, compare quotes of several builders that fit within your specifications. Don’t be afraid to draw a wider geographic circle if the contractor is willing to travel without charging more. But affordability only matters if you get a quality deck out of it.

Cutting corners or simply finding the cheapest pro could result in significant problems. The materials used may be cheap and rot quickly. The support the surface provides might be unstable and dangerous. Always consider the long-term costs and benefits of quality work. Paying less upfront may actually be more expensive if you consider the cost of repairs.

Deciding on which materials you should use depends entirely on the type of deck you’re looking for. Composite works well for a simple surface exposed to harsh elements, while concrete is the standard choice for many patios. Your decking material options can range from wood to aluminum. Learn about the pros and cons of these materials to make the right decision.

You can build a deck during any season, which is why choosing the right time for this project depends on your preferences:

  • Spring: get your deck ready in time for landscaping and to enjoy it throughout the warmer seasons.

  • Summer: use spring for the planning process, then get the project ready before it gets cold out.

  • Fall: Limit turf or landscape damage by building once most plants begin to recede.

  • Winter: make the excavation process easier, thanks to cold and firm ground.

Many deck builders prefer winter, which is also the season with the shortest waiting queues. Still, other seasons are far from impossible for this type of project.

Expect a thorough examination of the space, and the development of a project schedule. Delivery of materials might already have occurred or could be planned at this point.

Additional research about working with deck builders can help you understand what to expect from experts, and what they expect from you.

Make sure the site of the deck or patio is clear of any landscaping and debris. The contractor will also call a utilities locator service to mark power, water, cable, and other services around the area where they will be digging. The cleaner the area your builder has to work with, the more quickly they can get started. Make sure they have space to park any construction vehicles. Find a dry space for materials that might need storage during the install. Finally, ensure clear access to the site through your house or property.

When it comes to the DIY vs. hire a pro decision for your deck, the answer tends to be clear. Only take it on yourself if you have significant expertise and experience. Without either, you risk building a faulty exterior space, leading to injury risks. Projects built without necessary expertise also break more quickly, making them more expensive in the long run.

If you do want to take on decking as a DIY project, be sure to do your research. Learn about installing the posts and footing for your framing. Understand how to lay decking boards and build the railings and stairs you need for access and security.
