"I needed someone to replace some water-damaged hard wood flooring in a 120-year-old house in Washington, DC. I received three different flooring quotes from area companies, and I was particularly impressed with the District Floor Depot’s team. Mario came out to conduct the initial assessment and was kind enough to provide a thorough summary of options available for the repairs and finishing. The office sales and project management team took his notes and assembled a detailed quote that ultimately was cheaper than the closest competitor. In the end, we liked our experience so much that we expanded the work to cover resurfacing the wood flooring in the entire home. There was an error in the quote that altered the price, but Lesli called me and walked me through the correction and explained that the final quote was actually cheaper than the original. I was very thankful for that clarification that saved me money. The team was incredibly responsive with the planning and contracting phases. The initial job was scheduled to take 3-4 days, but they assigned a guy named Ever and his team to the job. Ever was very responsive to my inquiries and ended up completing the job in only two days. The red oak flooring was a decent match with remaining original boards, and the finish we used matched all the stairs and railings we didn’t refinish. The major dust and debris generated from sanding a 1,600 square-foot space was expertly cleaned up from all surfaces, which really exceeded my expectations. I couldn’t be happier! Thanks to Mario, Ever, Elsi, Lesli, Juan, Ella, Yusuf, and the rest of the team for your service!"

""The house looks better now than it did brand new! --what our realtor said when he saw the house. It was a pleasure to work with Mr. Zavala. He was flexible with our schedule as we had a delay, and worked very hard to finish as quickly as possible without compromising the quality of his work, so that we could get the house on the market. We worked together to pick out carpet to match the paint, and it was a perfect match. When they were done, they vacuumed the home and didn't leave a trace of trash anywhere. My only regret in working with Mr. Zavala is not using his cleaning services. I thought the price for a whole house cleaning at $450 sounded expensive, but in the end that would have been the perfect price to clean the whole house. I would not hesitate to hire Mr. Zavala again. Thank you, William Zavala for making our home beautiful again!!"

"I did not get other pricing for this project; but, it seemed that they were in the ballpark. They were late; but, they called to notify me about that. They could not get every stain out or perfectly stretch out the wrinkles: but, in fairness, we do have "builder's grade" carpeting that had those problems for at least a couple years. So, overall; I believe they did as good a job as possible."

"Great job. Arrived as scheduled and was very professional. He even squeezed in some work on a carpet while he was here to clean upholstery. This is the second time we have used Hew and we would use him again."

FAQs for carpet repair, refasten, or stretch projects in Lincoln, VA

Removing a rug costs around $0.40 to $0.50 per square foot. This includes the fee for a contractor to roll up the rug and haul it away in a vehicle for disposal or recycling. If they need to move furniture, they might charge an additional $0.25 to $0.30 per square foot of furniture.

If your carpet has minor damage—like a single area that requires stretching, patching, or cleaning—it might be less expensive to pay for carpet repair than remove and replace it. Repairing carpet costs around $210 per project.

The cost of carpet cleaning is about $190 for a three-bedroom home, so it’s a good idea to have your carpet cleaned at least once a year. But most carpeting only lasts 10 years. If your carpet is nearing the end of its life span, it might be more cost-effective to remove and replace your carpet than to clean and repair it. The average cost to install a new carpet is about $1,800.

Search our directory of carpet removal companies and services to find an affordable, screened contractor near you. All HomeAdvisor listings are vetted, reviewed, and rated by homeowners, so you can be sure to find a local pro qualified for your project. Get at least three quotes to compare prices and the timeline for your project.

Commercial carpet removal usually costs on the lower end of the carpet removal price range, around $1.10 per square foot or even less. Carpet installation contractors often offer discounted rates for larger projects, like commercial carpet removal and installation. Similarly, you might be able to negotiate a lower residential carpet removal cost if the carpet is pulled up throughout your entire home.

Most cities accept old carpets as bulk trash, but you may need to schedule a special pickup and prepare the carpet properly. Remove any nails or glue residue, cut the carpet into manageable pieces, and roll and secure them. Alternatively, you can take your old carpet to a local recycling center for a small fee, where it can be processed and repurposed.

Yes, you can remove carpet yourself if you're ready for a labor-intensive task. DIY carpet removal requires heavy lifting and tools like utility knives, pliers, and pry bars. The process is generally straightforward but time-consuming for stapled-down carpet. If your carpet is glued down or you're worried about damaging the subfloor, hiring a professional is best to ensure the job is done safely and efficiently.
