"Good.  Came out on time and completed on time.  Noticed a couple of issues with the job and came out with 3 business days to remedy the problems.  The issues were that one of the edges of the patio had to be sealed to prevent erosion of the sand beneath the patio.  This was a unique issue because of the grade of a handicap accessible ramp adjacent to the patio. <br />"

"VERY impressed with the work and overall professionalism of Coast to Coast. From the proposal/quote stage all the way through payment, everything was fully communicated, executed quickly, and delivered with the utmost attention to detail —probably 2-3 weeks from first contact to finished work. They fixed the tuck pointing on our very old, crumbling limestone foundation and installed 3 glass brick windows. Even rough areas I would've expected them to miss because I hadn't explicitly pointed them out were touched up. Would definitely use again in the future. THANKS"

"I have the greatest regard for Sergio and the entire team at Pavestone! The result is fantastic - a beautiful, well proportioned and designed patio, with a high-quality installation accomplished on time and on budget. For projects like this, though, the result is first, but the experience is just as critical. Each step of the way, the Pavestone team provided value and assistance. The proposal and quote was complete and competitive. Sergio provided a great deal of information and explanation surrounding the cost and timeline. I would estimate that we talked (due to my questions and indecision) 10 times regarding stone selection. He met me to look at the stones, and then he dropped off stones I picked -or ones he thought I would like - so I could see them in my yard, close to my house, to make sure I was comfortable with the overall look and the fit with the house. I think he did this three different times as my thoughts changed as the project got closer. His team at the office provided drawings from every angle to show the patio before we started the work. I gave him measurements of patio furniture and where I want to place it, and he validated where it should go and confirmed that the shape of the patio would work with my plan to furnish the patio. He stayed in touch with me in the way that worked best - text, email and phone - for me. When installation began, I met the crew and the leader, Horatio, and they went to work. They worked hard, were respectful, answered any questions I had, were neat and orderly and provided realistic feedback about what would happen each day. It was clear to see their work ethic and craftsmanship as they worked. Sergio stayed in touch and came by, and let me know when inspection was going to happen and then coordinated the gas hook up for the grill with great follow up. When we finished, he came to assess each piece of the patio, and even worked with me on adjusting where I had furniture, as well as providing guidance on cleaning the stone. All in all, it was a really great experience and I ended up with what I wanted. I would actually say - I ended up with more than what I wanted because I wasn't sure. Deferring to the experts was the right call. It was a GREAT experience and I highly recommend Pavestone!"

"He always comes when he says he will. I have worked with him before so he knew what kind of stone I wanted. We were using the same kind of stone as before. They put a good layer of material under the stone to ensure everything was stable. He also looked at my patio in the back yard and made a few minor repairs. He is very friendly and easy to work with. He is very knowledgeable in his field!"

"We worked with two different tuck pointers last summer. Our experience could not be more different. We first contacted the tuck pointers due to moisture seeping thru the front parapet wall and draining into window frames. Since the repair by Star Tuckpointing, it is dry. Additional work was done on the side parapets and general tuckpointing and bricks replaced as needed. Star was very responsive, answered all of my questions completely and even drew sketches to help me understand the moisture problem. I found them very honest and even volunteered ways that would save money such as terminating one of a 3 chimney grouping since it wasn't functioning or needed. They were on time and worked the full day weather permitting and cleaned up well. They stayed on the job until it was completed. I would definitely call them first if I need tuckpointing services again. Call them early in the year, they book up quick."

"I cannot say enough about what a great experience we had overall with John Construction. <br /> Jan responded to my email inquiry immediately, and he was patient with my emails back and forth trying to find the best time to come out and give an estimate. When I finally found a good time for him to come out, he arrived on time and did a very thorough and honest inspection and assessment of the work that needed to be done. Rather than include more work than needed to be done, he explained that he only needed to grind out the damaged brick and would use a mortar to match the mortar that was still in good condition. (We had water damage from a leaky roof, so the damage was not widespread on the home.) <br /> He sent over his estimate via email that same evening, and it was MORE than reasonable. I had secured estimates from other companies before John Construction came out; whereas a couple of the other estimates were a few hundred dollars more, one of the previous estimates was over double what Jan offered - which was reasonable and fair. Having to schedule based on my summer pay schedule, he was once again patient with finding a date to come out and do the work. <br /> Jan and his partner came out on the scheduled date (a Saturday) - they arrived on time and were very professional, introducing the partner by name and ensuring that we knew exactly what would be done to the house. They got to work right away with the grinding, which took about 3 hours. They followed with a thorough clean up of the dust and then got right to work with the tuckpointing. Each time we came outside to see the progress, they both stopped and gave us an overview of how things were going; once again, very friendly and professional. When they finished a very long and hot day of work, their clean-up job was impeccable, especially considering the messy job that the grinding entails! <br /> Since we weren't home when they finished and left, Jan sent an email to follow up to ensure that we were happy with the work. Overall, I can't say enough about John Construction and our experience with them. We will undoubtedly go to them in the future for all of our masonry needs!"

"Our brick garage was in serious need of rebuilding on the south wall. Hynek Construction did a fantastic job of dismantling the corner and middle pillars and replacing 5 brick courses below along with some tuckpointing. Installed 9 pieces of new limestone copings as well. The crew was second to none working expertly, and tirelessly in 90+ degree heat. The garage looks great and will stand the test of time! Clean up was also done with care. I highly recommend Hynek Construction if you are in need of brick/mason work and want it done expertly."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Lincolnwood, IL

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
