A-Total Plumbing - An Ace Hardware Home Services Company is your trusted choice for all your plumbing needs in Atlanta and North Georgia. We take pride in providing exceptional service and expertise. Contact us today for helpful, reliable and professional plumbing solutions.

"Warning: Do not use A-Total Plumbing. They screwed me. In the end, they fixed it, but it took 4 days and 34hours to install a water heater. Let me first say, the employees of A-Total Plumbing were very nice and personable. As far as their plumbing skills, I will let you determine that from my ordeal below. I called A-Total Plumbing because I had pipes that sounded like they were rattling. They quickly dispatched two guys. When they arrived, they performed a series of tests and determined I had a leak in the house, and it was coming from my water heater. The water heater was old, so I agreed, they also let me know that I needed a 75-gallon tank because of the size of the house. The cost was almost $7k, but I needed it done so I agreed. They started right away. It was a Friday, so after working on some stuff after 3 hours they told me they would have to come back Monday. I said as long as I have hot water you can come back Monday. And we agreed on that. They told me the job would take about 6 hours on Monday. They arrived Monday morning. • Three hours into the job they told me the water heater would not fit in the spot the old one was, and they needed to move it. I am not sure how they didn't know that Friday or when they arrived on the job on Monday, but what could I do. Shelves had to be removed and part of my storage was given up. • I left them alone to work. Fast forward to 4:30 pm, 6.5 hours later, I go to check on them and they let me know it would be a few more hours. Keep in mind this entire time there is no water to the house and no heat because they told me they needed it off. • About 7pm there was a smell of gas. They told us that they replaced a valve, nothing to worry about. So, we turned the fans on and opened the windows to get the smell out. It was very cold outside, 48 degrees I believe, but we have a baby in the house, so we had to get the smell out and bundled up because I could not turn the heater on. • Fast forward to 8ish pm. This is when they tell me they can't finish the job. There is a part they need that they did not bring. Why they didn’t know that on Friday or even early in the day I don’t know. Obviously concerned and upset, I asked what that meant. They said I will have water, just not hot water. • I asked what time they would be here in the morning, and they said they would have to send someone else because they had a class. They apologized and told me they would do everything except install the one missing part, so it will be quick for the guy coming out. Their shop was closed and apparently, the part could not be purchased at Home Depot. They left. • I went down there to check on the space and found trash everywhere, pipes leaning against the wall, boxes and the old water heater leaning against the wall. They did no clean up and really disrespected my space. I understand that during a job you make a mess, but they told me they would do everything except this guy installing the part. So now what? It was late so I decided I would talk to the new guy when he arrived. I asked when the new guy would be here, and he told me someone call me between 7:30 and 8am to schedule. What? This is urgent for me, have them here as soon as possible. • At 10pm same night, the smell of gas is gone so we close the windows, turn off the fans, and turn on the heater. The heater does not work. I know it is connected because they asked me to make sure the heater was off before they started their work. They told me the only thing I would not have been hot water, but nope, no heat either. At this point it is 42 in the house. We go to bed to get warm. • I call their office. Someone picks up and I explain the issue. The first question they ask me is if I have a membership. What? I just explained that I am in a house with no hot water, which I knew, but now no heat. She said she would mark this as an emergency and have someone call me between 7:30 and 8am the next day. • It is now 8:30am the next day, still have not heard from anyone, so I call. Guess what, I'm put on hold, when the person on the other end comes on, they take my info and have no idea what I am talking about. They are going to call someone else and have someone call me back immediately. At this point I am lost. • It's now 9:30am. An hour has passed and no call. I have called again, and they say the technician is on the way and very close. It would have been nice to have known, but now I am waiting. • It is now 10:36 am and the new guy just arrived. Once again, very nice guy. The previous guys did brief him a little, but there was much more needed than he was told. He has started working and told me that everything would be fixed today. • It is now 3pm and I am told that they have to order another part and it won't be here for 2 days, 5 hours has passed since the new person showed up. But they will keep working on the other stuff. He explained what was going on and next steps. • It is now 8:30 pm and nothing is fixed. Apparently, the previous people from this company did something to the water shut off. They were shutting it off and on fine on Monday, but now Tuesday, it won’t, and the city has to come out. That will be in the morning of day 4. Going to bed tonight with no shower, no hot water, and no heat, luckily it is only 46 degrees outside, instead of the colder it was previous day. They will give me a credit of 5% (not sure how long it takes to post, but haven't seen it yet) and redoing all the duct work the next day to get me working until the part comes in a few days. Apparently, when the new guy touched the duck work, it all fell apart from the previous guy’s work. I feel like most of today was probably them fixing stuff from the previous people. I am told they will handle that situation internally. • Day 4 of Hot Water Heater installation. They showed up at 10am to start the duct work. Also, they got the water off to finish, but it would be off for no more than an hour. Water was off for an additional 7 hours, not the original hour I was told. The reason, the previous guy broke the water pipe coming in the house and it had a small leak. • It is now 5:30pm of day 4 of hot water heater installation and I now have heat. Apparently, the water pipe breaking was more severe and now they have to dig a hole in my front yard and run a new one to get to it so it’s going to take a little longer to get water. • It is now 9pm on day 4 everything has been fixed. I wish I had Jacob, the new guy, on the first pass. Not only was he apologetic, but he really made me feel comfortable and got things done. He was awesome. I'm afraid he might be a diamond in the rough, but I gave one star for him. He did his best and it a good plumber, but I can’t overlook all the damage caused by the other ones. So, in summary, I had an annoying pipe sound, called A-Total Plumbing and after four days, and upsold to buy a water heater, I finally got hot water and heat. I should have just lived with noisy pipes. It was a total of 34 hours between all four days to put in a water heater when the average is 3 hours. My thought is that it took 2 days to fix the damage done on Monday. I now feel like I was taken advantage of, mislead, and out $7k. I'm not even sure now if I needed a new water heater or the bigger one, I was upsold. I have no confidence. I just hope it was done correct. I keep going down, expecting a leak. I found A bucket of water and several wet towels pile in the corner and I’m hoping they’re from the job and not new. Trying to stay positive."

"I am leaving a review before the work is even started. I received a quote from another company and scheduled the work. When they showed up, they tried to triple the cost. I told them to get out of my house. I then called Rooter Pro Plumbing to come out and give me a quote. Jerimey Jackson came out and looked over the situation and then put me on a conference call with the owner. They agreed to match the quote I received from the other company even though it was seriously underbid. They are a great company to work with. They are scheduled to come out this week to start the project. I would highly recommend a company with such integrity in the employees and the owner. I look forward to working with them."

Sump pump or interior foundation drains installations FAQs

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
