"This was the second time this year that we had work done by Peter Frazier. Earlier this year, he repaired a brick walkway which was missing much of the mortar. They did an excellent job repairing the walkway and matching the old mortar. In early fall we had some masonry repair and an old cracked concrete slab removed and had Peter pour a new concrete slab. Again, Peter and his team did an excellent job at a reasonable price. <br />"

"After searching for awhile for someone to repair the steps/railing leading into our house, PK Masonry was the only company that was willing to do the small job in a timely manner. When we met at my house to check out the job, we were given several options at a range of price points. Once a solution was decided, we were told the steps that would need to be taken for the most successful outcome. It was one of the easiest and stress free home repairs we have done in quit some time. Highly recommend."

"The process was easy. I love that Phillip wasn't pushy even when I was undecided on whether or not I wanted to go with AA Marble. I'm SOOO happy I did go with them. It was a pleasant experience. Very good quality of Granite and the installers were on time and professional! Great Job! Thank you so much!"

"Shane and his crew did an amazing job correcting my leaking basement. When he quoted the job he gave me options and provided information for me to make an informed decision. He and his crew completed the work quickly with little disruption. Then he cleaned up and left our property in great condition."

"Very nice and professional. Realize that the offer is for about 5 cu yds of mulch and order extra depending on your needs. They spread the mulch for the same price I usually pay just for purchase and delivery of the same amount."

"Jesse is very nice, and seemed to understand what I was asking for, although he did take a while to get back to me on several occasions.  Unfortunately, he doesn't always communicate the details of the job well enough to his 2 crews.  One crew speaks only Spanish.  The crews like to show up earlier than planned, often without calling first.  This bothered me because when they did work without me there, inevitably something would be "off."  They did correct things when I asked, and were very patient as I kept adding projects on (and paying extra for them).  You know, you never really comprehend about all the little stuff that comes to light once you start changing your yard.  However, we did get it all done over about 2 months time, and the yard looks great.  They removed dead bushes and planted new ones, created a berm around existing trees, built several low retaining walls, planted new trees, put down a lot of sod, spread a lot of mulch, built a dry stone creekbed to help with drainage down a hill, and put nice natural stone borders around the flower beds.  My only complaint is that where they attempted to fix drainage issues, the sod over those areas was "lumpy" to walk on, and water would still collect in spots.  I had another company come out and redo some of the grading and spread sand to help even things out.  It is hard to find a landscaping company who will do projects under $10,000 - they all want corporate projects or wealthy homeowners, so I appreciated that was not the case here.  Just remember, as with most contractors, you should make sure you are there when they do the work and speak up if things aren't what you asked for.  I <br />"

"Rydell Grading replaced our drain pipes through our yard. They did an excellent job! Ryan and Dylan were easy to work with. They were extremely knowledgeable and helped me understand the process. They got the job done quickly and did not mess up the rest of my yard in the process! I am very happy with the end product and will definitely be calling them again for our next big job. I highly recommend Rydell Grading!!"

"Hired Crescent ridge to build a creek bed from a underground spring flowing through my back yard causing standing water and erosion. There was a corrugated pipe the water would flow into that would get clogged with silt and cause water not to flow and trench would fill with water in heavy rain. Water would overflow and stand in my yard for weeks at a time. They dug and cleaned out the trench about 100ft for water flow lined with fabric and river rock. Then they dug up old corrugated pipe that kept getting clogged and partly collapsed that water from trench flowed to. They installed 100ft of pvc piping for smooth water flow and connected to drainage out front for water to drain. Matthew and his crew were very professional. Everything was organized. They first prepared area to be worked prior to starting. Then they started installation causing no hiccups. They also cleared another area behind my fence full of years of broken limbs, piles of leaves and other debris. They leveled area using soil dug from trench and placed straw. After digging the 100ft to place the pvc they covered it back with the soil leveled it then seeded and placed straw. They also used started fertilizer. Now I have a beautiful river rock creek bed where water can flow to pipe and not flood and erode my yard. Oh they also used water hose to wash away any dirt from my driveway. Crescent Ridge landscape was hired over others because of their A+ Rating with the better business and their Secretary of State year after year complance. Their estimate was very detailed line by line cost of each material and labor. Price compared to other quotes were competitive. Well worth the job. Now I can sleep and say let it rain. Thanks Matthew and crew job well done."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Lithonia, GA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
