"When we discovered black mold in our attic in 2003, we thought we could handle the mold problem by ourselves. We had a new roof installed with all of the wood decking replaced, and an attic fan installed. We sprayed all of the attic rafters with bleach water (yuck). We were mold free for many years. Unfortunately, this past spring we discovered black mold growing again on our attic decking. This time, we decided to get some professional help from Green Home Solutions. Mike Mitchell came to our home and spent over an hour with us, inspecting our attic and our basement for mold. He explained to us the three ingredients necessary for mold growth: 1.) moisture, 2.) a food source, and 3.) stagnant air. Mike talked to us about the importance of finding the cause of the mold before treating it. He stressed that a mold remediation warranty is only valid when the the mold problem is alleviated. If we get a new roof and do not fix the lack of air flow in our attic, the mold would just come back. Mike then discussed with us his company's mold remediation process: the first step is the EPA registered mold killing Enzyme Treatment (an ultra-fine mist) that kills the mold on our attic building materials and in the air; and second step is the Foaming Stain Cleaner that is applied to all attic surfaces to remove as much staining from the black mold as possible. Mike recommended we wait to do the mold remediation until after our new roof, the fully vented soffits, and new ridge vent were installed. Carly was wonderful! She called us every couple of weeks to see if the roof project was completed yet, and she held the price of the mold remediation contract for us. On 10/8/2019, Mike sprayed our attic while our gutters were being installed. Our roofer was so impressed with Mike that he asked for Green Home Solutions contact info to recommend to his customers who have mold remediation concerns.
