"I had significant water intrusion into my garage and a bathroom, which is underneath my kitchen, during the tropical storm last fall. There had also been some previous water damage as well. I used Angie's list deal to get mold testing done. Aaron showed up at the scheduled time and completed the testing. In a few days, he sent me the results of the testing and a quote on remediation. Fortunately the mold was minor,, however the damage was still significant so I contracted to fix the damage. The work took about three days. They used vapor barrier and fans to keep the air contained in the garage as they removed the drywall and insulation, treated the mold that they found. They replaced the insulation and put up new drywall using quality materials. Overall, the work went smooth. The workers were timely, professional and took good care of my home."

"The price quoted was higher than I expected but only because it was much MORE involved of a project than I ever imagined! Disaster Response came and gave me a quote that was to fix the problem so it would not return. They were professional and nice to work with but I could not afford the work at this time."

"Two men arrived on time and another man (engineer) came in to inspect our ductwork in the attic, stating we had a "spider" system as opposed to a trunk line but didn't say what that meant for the cleaning. They did not describe how they would be cleaning the ductwork but I didn't ask either. I was quoted a price of $279 for 14 vents. When the crew arrived, he reviewed the pricing and told me it was another $39 EACH for our 3 returns. He also offered to put an antimicrobial treatment in the system. When I hesitated, he cut the price in half for the treatment. The removed all the registers and cleaned them out front. One of them was still dirty when it was put back. They cleaned the ductwork with some sort of device that blew air into the ductwork from each register and used a regular appearing vacuum hooked into their van to suck up what fell out. When I had ductwork cleaned in another house, each vent was sealed and the whole system was put under pressure. That house had a trunk system so maybe this was the only way they could clean our spider system? I think the ducts are better but it's hard to say."

"They diagnosed the problem right away. They even came out on a Saturday and started work on Sunday. I had 2 other vendors call me and one got the problem wrong and the second took several days to even call me. Nova was wonderful, professional and were so knowledgeable. I recommend using them for water damage or mold removal and then rebuilding."

FAQs for toxicity and mold removal projects in Norfolk, VA

Remediation should keep mold from returning as long as the moisture source is eliminated. Fix leaks, control humidity, and replace water-damaged materials, then schedule periodic inspections to stay ahead of new growth. With those safeguards, your home can stay mold-free for the long haul while protecting both health and property value.

Most pros recommend leaving the home while they work on mold remediation. Removing mold stirs up airborne spores that can aggravate respiratory issues, and contractors can work more efficiently in an empty space. A short, temporary relocation keeps everyone in your family safe and lets the crew finish the job without interruption.

Mold shouldn’t return once the moisture problem is fixed. Stay vigilant: repair leaks right away, keep humidity below 50 percent with a dehumidifier placed in damp areas, and improve ventilation where needed. Routine checks for leaks and mold and quick repairs go a long way toward keeping your home mold-free.

Mold spores can trigger nasal congestion, throat irritation, coughing, wheezing, eye irritation, or skin rashes. People with asthma, allergies, or weakened immune systems often feel the effects sooner and more intensely. Some molds also release mycotoxins linked to serious respiratory or neurological issues. Swift remediation and better ventilation are the best defenses.
