"Scott McIntyre did an excellent job landscaping our backyard. After an original hiccup about following up on irrigation service (slow response), Scott really stepped up to the plate and helped me in resolving all our irrigation issues."

"Cannot say enough good about this company’s crew from the first contact Mike Bing to our project manager Adrian O’Donoghue right down to the main installer Gilbert. Very responsive to all our needs and questions. I’m not sure you loves the turf more, our dog or us! It’s beautiful and the paver edging just completes the look tying right into our existing paver patio."

"Ted McFadden of Sureshine did an excellent job on my countertop. I chipped the edge of the countertop and was certain it was not fixable. Ted completed the work Saturday. He arrived on time, brought the proper equipment, fixed the chip and repaired the grout behind the countertop. He also found a small crack in the corner of the granite and repaired that as well. The job was not inexpensive, however I paid a very high price for the countertop and it needed a real craftsman for the job. I would hire this company again for any stone or granite work. Thank you Sureshine. Susie"

"The job is in progress. One thing Susan promised and delivered on is that the crew would clean up every day. I found 1 crushed water bottle in the past week that did not make the garbage can. I can totally live with that. Thanks to Susan and Brian. Also, this was estimated at being a 1 month job, but after the progress during the first week I can't see it going more then 2 or 2.5 weeks total. FINALLY!!!!!, a contractor that UNDER promised and OVER delivered. <br />"

"From start to finish the experience was great. I was so happy with them that I did not do a price comparison. I feel I got my money's worth! I had an area that was just dirt where the patio should have been. When I bought my home, there was a rotty old deck covering this bare patch. I tried using flag stones and vegetation but it never really worked...so I finally called the cement guys to patch it up. <br /> First they gave me a rough estimate over the phone, which helped tremendously, to get a feel for what I would be looking at. Then Ignacio came out and inspected the area and gave me a formal proposal. I liked him immediately and felt confident to move forward. In my previous home I'd had extensive concrete done and knew enough to recognize a quality team. <br /> Sure enough, they came promptly the next day, worked all day and finished and cleaned up with no sign of their having been there. I really liked that they dug down deep, included rebar, and hand tinted the concrete for the final finish. It was exactly what I asked for, a smooth tinted finish. <br />  I still need to arrange the plants a bit, but Ignacio even volunteered to have a guy come back and help me! I am so impressed by their employees, who were courteous and very professional. The work is great. They did a really fine job trying to match a motley colored tile that covers the rest of the patio. I couldn't be happier and have already recommended them to a friend. <br />"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Los Gatos, CA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
