"Mike called me right away late in the evening and came the next morning. He was prompt, professional and friendly. He replaced my sump pump quickly and explained everything well. He did great work and was priced fairly. I'd highly recommend him to anyone."

"Nathan was very patient with all my questions and respects those who can do some DIY work. I tried to repair the issue on my own but ultimately needed to replace the entire pump. He installed a new one and it’s working great."

"Comandor & Antoine showed up within and hour and addressed my issue. They let me watch everything and talked me through start to finish. It was a dirty job, but they did it with a smile and were fun to talk with. They only did what was needed and didn't try to upcharge me for things I don't need. I have been burned before by sewer companies, and it was nice to find a couple guys I can trust. My only complaint is that the AB and Sons website listed "Power rodding starting at $99". I thought this was too good to be true, and it was. The crew wasn't aware of the website price. Turns out that is for rodding regular drains. Be sure to be clear what you need."

"While he was here, he tried very hard to sell me other services, grilling me about our sump pump, etc., which felt invasive.  After he left, I went outside to inspect the new faucet, only to discover irregular blobs of adhesive oozing all around it. So noticeable, you can still see the mess of it from our deck! Perhaps if he hadn't been so busy trying to sell me other services, he might've done the job properly!"

"The job took a total of 3 1/2 days to complete during a blistering hot and humid time period. The brother/sister team did a fabulous job!

From acquiring the building permit and working with the city officials to ensure all requirements were up to code, digging down 6 feet into heavy dirt, making sure the job site was clean and organized at the end of each day, installing window and river rock at the base of the well, even cleaning and touching up an minor scratches "dings" that occurred during the install. The window was framed, insulated and sealed both inside and outside. All excess dirt was removed daily.

Both workers were knowledgeable, focused on the job at all times, arrived each day ready to work and were enjoyable and honest people to work with. We would highly recommend them.

"Job went well start to finish. Custom sheet metal and gas pipe retrofitting required for installation was exceptional. Installers were courteous and professional. Overall A+ experience. Prompt and efficient dealing from 1st call to completion. Highly recommended."

"I had a leak from my second floor bathroom that came down into the dining room. After having Roto Rooter decontaminate the area between the floors, I hired Handyman Matters to repair the ceiling. The workman they provided did a great job, installing, finishing and painting the drywall in 2 days. They were also the lowest quote I received."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Loves Park, IL

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
