Customers say: Quick response

"I have a long easement and an area for a future carport that needed to be paved with crushed concrete. Mitch Stevens of Bay to Bay Paving was knowledgeable and clear in his explanations and suggestions. He came across as someone trustworthy. The project was completed today, and I'm very satisfied with the results. I highly recommend this company."

Small jobs welcome

"Mitch Stevens has resealed our driveway in the past. We added another area of paving which was just finished. We had the existing driveway resealed again. Everything looks new again! Thank you for a job well done, as usual!"

"Submitted a request through one of the contractor finder services, and Thomas from Bladecutters called within minutes of the request went out. I spoke with Thomas about the work I wanted performed (some grading and installation of a parking pad). Thomas provided suggestions on how the work should be done and some of the options I would have regarding materials. He provided a quote for the work within a day, and was able to complete the work within a week. Thomas showed up on time, was respectful of the property, and was pleasant to work with. He kept me updated on his progress throughout the work. When he identified potential issues, he provided suggestions for how we could address these. I am very pleased with the work performed, and would not hesitate to hire Bladecutters again."

"We had JC Masonry replace our fireplace. Cathi was great at responding promply. Joey was meticulous about his work, and did a great job! Working with them was like working with family. I wish I could attach pictures, because the end result was unbelieveable! I would definitely recommend them! In fact, I plan on using them again this summer to replace several retaining walls. Just good people!"

"Paid for grout cleaning. After “work” was done my grout lines came out darker than before (grout lines were white originally). Technician said that’s how they do it. He would have to charge me extra to make it lighter! I’ve been had, no doubt, but this is the last I’ll ever have to do with this company. DO NOT RECOMMEND (Second picture shows original grout line in pantry- only part of my floor he didn’t touch. You can see a clear difference between the original grout and what the “expert” did). DO NOT RECOMMEND. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! THIS IS NOTHING BUT FRAUD."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Lutz, FL

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
