Customers say: Quality work

"We had a brand new oven which has not been working. GE required that an electrician come out and verify the wiring was sound before proceeding further. Frank came out within a day, verified that the wiring was working as expected and provided us a report to give to the manufacturer. Everything was very professional and Frank was extremely courteous and helpful."

"I hired R and J Brothers to upgrade our electrical box. Rey and Garrett are very personable and professional and did a great job from start to finish. In fact, we were so pleased with the job they did that we hired them for additional work to install new light fixtures and recessed lighting throughout the home. I would certainly hire them again and recommend them to someone in need of an electrician."

"We hired Ken of North Crest LLC to upgrade our electrical panel and install a new outlet. In the process, he discovered that we still had some dangerous old knob-and-tube wiring. So he checked and replaced multiple outlets, rewired a ceiling fan, and installed 2 replacement light fixtures. Thank you so much, Ken, for making our old house safer! We plan to hire Ken again to upgrade our kitchen and bathroom. Would gladly recommend him to anyone!"

"Walter Gomez of Argo responded quickly and professionally to my initial inquiry. He came out to see and quote the job with in 24 hours. He communicated what he could and would do and once I told him what I wanted he told me how he would achieve my goal. Once I accepted the bid he fit the work day into my schedule when most have not. On the day of work they started a bit later than expected but worked efficiently and well. The work was completed on time and on budget. The 2 men helping Walter were polite and worked hard. Walter, though young, leads his crew and conducts business with confidence and is very pleasant to deal with. The only place where some improvement is needed is clean up. I have the feeling that had I not told them how they might place debris in my bins and stack old fixtures behind them; I would have had a pile of construction debris in my driveway. I do not know where or how to get rid of debris that trash won’t collect. Again, to his credit, Walter quickly separated the debris and put things where I could finish the clean up. I usually include that in what I need done by contractor. This time i didn’t think about it and so I have to dispose of it. The work is organized, neat and clean. If the clean up had been also Argo would be perfection. As it is they are close. I am VERY HAPPY with the job done and the people who did it. Walter Gomez was really terrific to work with. I Highly Recommend him and Argo Electric LLC"

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Mahwah, NJ

While homeowners with substantial electrical knowledge might technically attempt a subpanel installation, most local building departments require permits and inspections for this type of work. Professional electricians understand local code requirements, can obtain necessary permits, and ensure the installation meets safety standards. Given the significant safety risks associated with incorrect electrical work, most homeowners benefit from hiring a licensed professional.

A standard subpanel installation takes an average of four to eight hours. This timeframe may extend if you're installing multiple subpanels or adding specialized circuits like those for spa equipment. Factors such as difficult access points, complex wiring paths, or permit processing times can also affect the overall project duration.

Adding a subpanel doesn't directly reduce electricity consumption or lower your utility bills. A subpanel simply redistributes power from your main panel to additional circuits. However, organizing your electrical system more efficiently may help prevent overloaded circuits and the associated problems. For actual cost savings, consider energy-efficient appliances and lighting instead.

The appropriate subpanel size depends on your specific electrical requirements. Consider the number and type of devices you'll be powering, potential future needs, and the capacity of your main electrical panel. An electrician can perform a load calculation to determine the most suitable amperage rating for your situation, ensuring you have adequate power without overpaying for unnecessary capacity.

A main electrical panel connects directly to your utility's power supply and contains your home's primary service disconnect. It distributes electricity throughout your entire house. A subpanel, by contrast, receives power from the main panel and redistributes it to a specific area of your home. Think of the main panel as the primary distribution point and the subpanel as a secondary branch that extends your electrical system's reach.

While electrical upgrades aren't as immediately visible as kitchen or bathroom renovations, they can contribute to your home's functionality and safety. Prospective buyers often appreciate updated electrical systems that can accommodate modern power demands. A properly installed subpanel that provides additional capacity for workshops, home offices, or future expansions could be an attractive feature for certain buyers, though the direct impact on home value varies by market.
