"We could not have asked for better people and a better company to remodel our basement for us. Steve and his crew were timely, communicative, and overall great people to work with."

"We were not happy w/the 1st closet installed because it did not use all of the useable space. The company's owner, Doug Gauert, came to our house, agreed w/our assessment & drew up another plan. He was so helpful that we added built-ins to another closet in the room. The 2nd installation was perfect and we love the outcome. Would gladly hire and/or refer to this company."

"The crew is extremely friendly and very qualified. Unlike a lot of other crews, these have been together for years. They are not just summer hires. Their workmanship is without compare. The only problem is that they are expensive but the boss told us that outright. We found out later we could have gotten a much cheaper roof installed but it would have also been a lower grade shingle. <br /> So I guess you get what you pay for. We had one slight problem initially with the roof and they responded and fixed it promptly. <br /> Overall, you can not beat them for quality and superior workmanship - it is the price that hurts. <br />"

"This is our second time working with Corey. It was a wonderful experience to work with a contractor that takes pride in his workmanship. Corey had the the wood stained to match our new cabinets and he built a custom front to the bar, it turned out great!  We will use him again to remodel our bathroom. The overall experience was excellent and it easy to work with Cory. He was always cheerful, helpful and courteous and if he was running late he always called. Thanks Corey!"

"We lived in our house for 10 years and tried everything to prevent water <br /> from leaking into our basement. Mark Kaderabek came in and proposed <br /> digging inside of our basement and installing 2 sump pumps. He promised <br /> that we would never have water problems again. I thought he was crazy, <br /> but he was such a nice person and he was the only solution left. <br /> Mark <br /> and his employees did their work and kept the mess to a minimum. The <br /> sump pumps were installed and the rains came. No water in the <br /> basement. 4.5 years later-- no water in the basement. Mark knows what <br /> he is doing. <br />"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Manitowoc, WI

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
