"Radon Systems LLC did a great job. I had a radon level of around 6.5 in my basement for years, and finally decided I needed to address it. After receiving 3 quotes, I had Dave from Radon Systems come over to do the job. I initially was resigned to having the PVC pipe go up the side of my house, but Dave found a way to run the piping inside the basement and go thru the garage, with only 18" of PVC sticking up past the garage roof. Excellent! And now my radon level is around 1.0 to 1.5 all the time. The entire job took half a day, and Dave was clean, respectful and easy to work with. I absolutely recommend them."

"The two techs were very professional and courteous. They installed a high performance radon fan and 3" pvc pipe with two different points of extraction in my basement. They had to work partially in a crawl space which made the install more difficult. They cleaned up all debris and left the work areas immaculate."

"On first call Storch takes your basic info including the radon level and you then get a call from Fred Storch who is presumably the owner operator. He asks further qualifying questions about whether the basement is finished, where windows are located, etc. They then set a time for the visit within a 30 minute window. The crew arrived as expected and discussed where to do the install - we surveyed various options and selected a location that had minimum impact on interior and exterior aesthetics. Job was done quickly and professionally. Very happy with the outcome."

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"<p>Frank was extremely professional, along with his assistant Brian. They were prompt, courteous and respectful of the seller, and very helpful and patient to me. Frank took time explaining each thing to me that he found of concern. He also made recommendations to me outside of the scope of his report regarding maintenance items that I had questions about. He took photos of all items needing attention. He inspected the home at 3:30pm and it took about 2 hours. He was extremely thorough.  By 11pm, I had the full inspection report and termite report.  48 hours later, I had the radon report. I also emailed Frank several times with questions about items in the report and he always promptly emailed me back within a matter of hours.  Also, the radon test came back high and the seller insisted on a retest and Frank courteously offered to retest the property for me.  I am 100% satisfied with his service and expertise and would recommend him to anyone I know looking for a home inspector.</p> <br />"

"Hank was pleasant, professional and easy to work with. He told us some concerns he had about the first house having an underground oil tank. Based on his concerns, we did research on the internet that evening, and decided that the tank could become a major headache for us, and on that basis (and the fact that natural gas could not be brought to that house) we decided not to purchase it. A week later another house in the same neighborhood came on the market, and we had Hank inspect that house too. Based on his inspection, we decided to purchase the second house. Hank issues a very detailed report: he points out many possible hazards and problems, and gives many maintenance tips. But the reason for not giving him all A's is that we are not sure that he thoroughly checks out all the important structural elements. For example, he uses binoculars to check out the roofs, instead of climbing up to inspect them at close range. Also, we had a concern in the second house about an uneven bedroom floor; he basically downplayed its importance and said it was nothing to worry about. I hope he's right - I guess we'll find out when we tear up the carpet and put down a wooden floor in there. All in all, though, we're satisfied with him and would probably use him again."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Manville, RI

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
