"Very responsive to inquiry. Flexible scheduling. Excellent equipment. We ran out of crushed rock and owner used own trailer to secure more material since other suppliers were booked. He spread that rock With great skill in tight area."

"I contacted Smaller Deliveries to deliver 2 different sizes of gravel so I could rebase my driveway and add a smaller layer. This is the first time I've done a project like this. Mark was always responsive with phone calls. The first day, William brought the larger rock and gave me a helpful bit of pro advice which was spot on. He was able to do a great job spreading gravel with the truck. My driveway is circular and hilly. I had 2 loads and he made our day much less labor intensive. The second day, Mark brought the smaller rock, and also was an artist with his ability to get much of the gravel spread along the driveway. Both days were much less work and now I have a very nice gravel driveway. As a side note, I rented a plate compacter, and that is such a game changer for the end product. I will use Smaller Deliveries for future projects, they are friendly and provide great service."

"We checked around a few granite businesses that were vague on pricing or did not respond to questions. We went into Pro Granite and immediately appreciated the customer service and well organized showroom. Anna was very helpful showing us around and upfront about pricing, she even gave us a printout of our project with the costs of different pieces of granite. Very reasonably priced! Less than the big box stores. We decided on one kind and they pulled out those slabs for us to select the exact one we wanted. Excellent communication and punctuality from the templating appointment to the installation, always arriving about 5 minutes early in fact. Vinnie and Ivan did a meticulous job, their dedication to their craft shows through in the finished project. Recommend 100%."

"Sia and his crew did a stellar job on my new concrete driveway conversion from gravel and block planter wall in front of the house! After a prompt free estimate and due diligence, I found Step Up's estimate to be the most competitive and fairly priced. They were always very communicative and promptly showed up when they said they would everyday. Throughout the whole process, they kept the work area clean during the day and at the end of the day before leaving. In the end, both the concrete driveway and block wall turned out great, couldn't be happier with their work!"

"I needed to have some stumps removed that were located where the rockery was to be located.   I told him I would have them removed and call when it was completed.  I had problems finding someone to grind the stumps.  They called to check on progress.  When I said I was having problems finding someone he said he would get on it and in short order a tree service company came by and ground up the stump.   That was above and beyond what I expected.  The company was promptly on the job the following day.  They were able to reuse some of my old boulders saving me some costs.  Also, the amount of crushed was estimated but I was told more may be required but he wouldn't know until the rockery was in place.      Suggestions were made as to the shape of the driveway to best serve access to the side yard and the garage.  It's worked out very well and I can see my original idea would not have worked.  I'm happy I was talked into a change from my original plan. <br /> As it turned out the original estimate did not change and no additional crushed was required.  The driveway was made to be usable until I can get it repaved in the spring. <br /> I was so pleased I had them do another job at a house I was putting up for sale.  Now the side yard there looks great too. <br />"

"Tom and his Team did an awesome job.  He had to coordinate with our fireplace insert installers to demolish and replace existing tile with new beautiful granite tile.  Tom went above and beyond by going down to the Tile store with us and helping us select our granite mini-slabs used for the job.  They actually had to remove 2 layers of old tiles and were very flexible as our requirements changed somewhat as we decided to go down to floor level, versus just replacing existing raised level of tiles.  Tom's Team did a great job of removing the old tiles without damaging our hardwood floors.  Beyond that, they volunteered to get some floor finish and actually finished the uncovered hardwood for us.  We had thought we might need to bring in a wood worker for that work.  We could not be happier with the finished job.  We absolutely love our new fireplace insert and granite tiled surround and hearth.  We would definitely use Seattle Tile again and will freely recommend them to our friends.  The only "B" I gave was for price.  They weren't the cheapest quote I got, but when all was said and done we definitely made the right choice.  We believe the quality that we got was worth it. <br />"

"Rather a large project (started out at $20k and we added on some additional work for $10k more). Rotting railroad tie retaining walls (previous owner several decades earlier) removed and replaced with 2-3 man basalt rocks (300-800lb). Steps put also put into a retaining wall going to a patio. Large, well executed operation with the ability to put big rocks in tight places/structures. Estimate was on target along with communication/time expected. Work done August 2018 and is holding up like it was just installed."

"Great experiences each time I've used this company. It's really, really hard to get good people to do quality work in Seattle, and Steve Bodine is one of those people. He employs great workers, treats them well and holds on to them for years. He personally is a genuinely decent and nice guy as well. He has years and years of experience and I would trust him with all my drainage needs (that's saying something in Seattle). Bodine also did a fantastic job with my concrete driveway and walkways. I first hired Bodine almost 3 years ago to redirect my downspouts to a new drain field in my back yard. His crew did an amazing job. I was so pleased, I hired them to do some concrete work in my basement. Again, excellent work. Based on that, I then hired them to pour a new concrete driveway and walkway. Again, an incredible job. They really care about getting it right. Bodine does virtually all of their work based on referrals... and they are busy. But if you have a problem, they will take care of it immediately and other times, you just have to be a little patient knowing they're busy taking care of someone else's problems. It works both ways. They were very patient with me when I had to change dates to have my driveway poured due to other work going on at my house. I also want to mention Jim Cuba and Manny, who worked on my most recent project and were terrific."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Maple Valley, WA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
