"After two fairly severe winters, we had some settling of the hardscapes that Friebel's Quality Landscaping had installed (see earlier review for the original project). We were very pleased by the original installation, but the real test of a contractor is how he stands behind his work. Jeff (the owner) came out to take a look at the settling in March while it was still quite cold. As soon as it had warmed up, he had a crew out to fix the hardscape which is now as good as new. Great original install, great warranty service.

"Skip was on time and kept me in the loop for every step of the process. ?Calls were returned in a timely manner and everything went great. ?On the morning of the install they started right around 9:00am and were done by 11:30. ?FAST work that didn't skimp on quality. ?We are very happy with the new fence and the privacy it offers. ?Definitely recommend! ?"

"I had originally talked with Ron Diersing about an estimate for a driveway replacement in the fall of 2010.  He quoted a price that I thought was fair and set a date for the work to be done.  For a number of reasons, I decided to postpone the project until spring 2011, but still wanted to use Stamp and Concrete Masters to do the job.  I originally was only going to have the driveway replaced, but I added the project of having a wheelchair ramp removed, concrete poured where the ramp had been to make a small patio, and steps installed to run from the deck to the new patio area.  Ron was very understanding about everything, gave me a very fair estimate for the additional work, and we set the date to begin work on 4/19/11.  Because rain was expected on 4/19 and on 4/20, Ron called early on 4/19 and indicated that he thought he and his crew should delay the removal of my old driveway and ramp, plus concrete framing and other preparatory work to 4/20, and pour the new concrete driveway on 4/21 (4/21/11 was the only non-rainy day the whole week!).   The driveway was completed by 1:30 PM on 4/21.  Ron returned that evening to do some additional work on the driveway.  On 4/22/11, Ron installed steps from the deck to the new patio area and ran new wiring as needed to get the pet electronic fence working.  Ron recommends sealing the driveway at least 30 days after installation, but prior to winter, which I will be asking him to do in the near future.  "

"We hired Micah to completely redo our front landscaping, saving some of the original plants and moving them to a better location. He works with another fellow (Jim) who designed the landscape layout with our input. After some back and forth as to what plants would be used, we gave the go-ahead. There were significant delays between that and the actual landscaping, due in part to the business of the season; Micah addressed our concerns about responsiveness and the crew finally got the landscaping complete. There were some issues with it, such as a crooked tree and a trio of plants that died, that Micah immediately addressed. We'd originally requested a stone border around the landscaping that took quite a few conversations to get going and corrected once installed. The landscaping crew's attention to detail was not keen and Micah had to come back out to fill in holes with dirt, add border to an area that been forgotten, and recover large bare spots with more mulch. In the end, the plants weathered the hottest month on record and still look good, the landscaping looks great and matches our expectations.
Additionally, we wanted our small concrete front stoop improved and an old concrete slab on the crooked ground replaced. After several ideas were tossed around, we decided to have Micah lay a paver approach and do some finish work to the existing stoop. At the last minute, we changed our minds and decided to have him completely repour the concrete stoop. It took quite awhile for him to find someone to do this kind of work, there were a few emails asking if we'd been forgotten, and the crew didn't do the best job on the concrete work, but to Micah's credit he was patient with our hasty change in plans and the result looks welcoming. We will need to do significant clean up work to the stoop as there is concrete on the brick and the plants, but it's a  vast improvement to the old stoop.
I chose an overall grade of "A" despite numerous communication issues and several problems along the way because Micah remained professional, compensated us for long waits and issues, and uses quality plants and materials.

FAQs for sod installation projects in Marengo, OH

Seeding costs less up front, but you’ll wait months—and sometimes a full season—for the grass to fill in. Sod costs more per square foot, yet it gives you an instant, usable lawn the day it’s installed and needs far less care during the first year.

If speed and early curb appeal matter, the higher sod price is often worth it; if you’re watching every dollar and don’t mind the wait, seed can still be a smart play.

Start by sketching your lawn and breaking it into rectangles or circles. Measure each section, multiply length by width, and then add all the sections together for the total square footage. Standard sod rolls are two feet by 1.5 feet, and one pallet covers 450 square feet.

Divide your total area by 450 to see how many pallets you need, then round up—extras come in handy for cutting around curves or mistakes. Still unsure? A local sod supplier or installer can confirm your math before you order.

Most sod grips the soil within 10 to 14 days. During that stretch, keep foot traffic to a minimum and mow only if the grass gets tall. After two weeks, the roots should be strong enough for light use, but wait six weeks before heavy play or frequent mowing. Giving the grass that short honeymoon helps it anchor firmly and sets the stage for a durable, healthy lawn.

Give your new lawn two full weeks before any foot traffic, then stick to light use only. Hold off on vigorous play, parties, or regular mowing until the six-week mark so the roots can dig deep. Keep watering on schedule and watch for any dry patches. A little patience now means stronger turf and fewer repairs later.

Keep an eye on color, moisture, and even growth. Fresh sod should stay uniformly green; brown spots or gaps hint at dry soil or poor contact. Water deeply at least once a day for the first week (more in hot weather) and back off gradually after the roots take. Avoid heavy foot traffic until the grass feels firmly anchored. Quick attention to trouble spots now prevents costly patches later.

Aim for spring or early fall when daytime temps hover between 55°F and 80°F. Mild weather and consistent moisture help the roots knit quickly. Laying sod in midsummer can stress the grass, while frozen winter soil blocks rooting altogether.

If you must install outside the ideal window, budget extra time for watering and tending to the turf. Choosing the right season makes the job easier and the lawn tougher.
