"I contacted PaveOH online. Their sales person contacted me shortly after. They had an availability in the next couple of days. I have a very long driveway. Approximately 9700 sq ft. About 600’ long with a turn around and parking. The day of the work went fairly well. I had to ask them to correct spots that were wavy edges or not complete. They didn’t finish until about 10:00 PM. It was dark and I couldn’t really see all of the areas and they ran out of asphalt. They assured me that they would fix any problems. It was very hard to get hold of them. I don’t believe they ever answered their phone. They asked me to send pictures of the problem areas. I did. They came out one day with no prior notification and fixed one small area, but not the rest. I left my phone number numerous times. Weeks later I got a text saying they would be there in 15 minutes. I met the crew and they fixed most of the areas that were a problem. I was told on the phone that it weakened the pavement to have to use the blow torch on it. My Question is… why not do it right the first time? Why make the homeowner be the manager on the job? Where is your quality control? Some of the workers joked about how one of the edge guys wasn’t very good. If they knew this why did they not train him to do it right? I felt that the company culture was, We’ll do a pretty good job and if you bug us enough we’ll fix them. They could be very good at what they do easily, but they don’t."

"Let me start by saying I normally don’t leave reviews for companies. My neighbor had an appointment to meet about her driveway getting replaced, and I happen to be outside when they showed up. After Alex the owner had finished talking with my neighbor I had a few questions for him. Alex came over to inspect my driveway and was very polite and informative on the services he could provide. I not only wanted my driveway removed and reinstalled, I wanted several modifications done as far as widening and reshaping the driveway. Alex was very helpful with providing me information on how they could complete all my requests and provided me with a quote that was better than what I was expecting. They had a large crew scheduled to start a few days later. The crew was scheduled for 9am and was here by 8:40. I watched the entire process and asked multiple questions during the job. The entire crew couldn’t have been nicer in answering questions and explaining what was being done. When they were done they took time and cleaned the entire area even sweeping the street. After they left you couldn’t tell they were there outside of the new driveway. The crew was very careful of all my landscaping and yard work. They took extra effort to not damage any of my plants. After the job was done the owners came to meet with me and discuss aftercare and make sure I was happy before they accepted any money for the job. As I said, I normally don’t leave reviews, but I was so happy with my experience and the finished product that I wanted to share this experience. If you are in need of asphalt paving and thinking of hiring someone this is the company to go with."

"Design: Micah Dean met with my wife and I for an hour and we discussed exactly what we wanted and the three of us collaboratively created a plan. Dean created a quote, itemizing all the things we had discussed, and handed it to us before he left. I told him that we didn't need a full design drawing as our project was relatively simple and he seemed to clearly understand exactly what was needed. We decided on general types and sizes of plants for purposes of getting a quote with the understanding that we'd pick the specific species of plants after we decided on a landscaping company. We met with representatives of two other companies (all three are highly rated smaller companies that specialize in residential landscape work with specific experience in installing large trees) and then decided to go with Dean. We chose Dean because of reputation, confidence in his understanding of our project and our priorities, his ability to articulate a plan to meet our needs, ability to complete the project in a timely manner, and lastly price. We made our decision the third week of March.
Via email, we discussed exactly which species of plants and trees were to be used for which locations and made final decisions.
Demolition (late April): Micah's crew ground the stumps. They removed the plants we wanted to save (placing them temporarily in a different bed) so they could completely remove an old Rose of Sharon that we wanted to get rid of, which involved removing lots of roots and shoots throughout the planting bed. They removed the old brick planting bed borders. This work was done thoroughly and efficiently.
Preparation (early May): Micah used a subcontractor to grind the roots from our old maple tree flush with the lawn (kind of like refinishing a warped wood floor). The edges of the planting beds needed to changed and redefined. Micah's did not seem to thoroughly explain the details of the project adequately to his crew. This is where not having a drawing started to become a problem. The edges were not where the three of us had decided upon, and his crew had to come back to fix them later. They put stakes in the ground where they intended to install each of the plants. We moved one of the stakes and let them know about it. They delivered the soil and properly graded the planting beds and lawn area.
Delivery (early May): Five Arborvitae, one Ninebark, one Maple tree, and one Redbud tree were delivered. The Ninebark and the Redbud were not the specific varieties that had been agreed upon. We decided we actually liked the delivered Ninebark better and kept it, and Micah exchanged the Redbud in one day without any friction at all. Accuracy: C; Responsiveness: A.
Planting (early May): They were about to put the Maple where the Redbud was supposed to go and the Redbud in the Maple's intended location, but luckily my wife caught this before they actually put the large (2 - 2.5 inch caliper) trees in the ground. Again, a drawing and better internal communication within the company would have prevented this. They installed one of the Arborvitae in the original location of the stake and not where we had relocated it. They installed another leaning at a noticable angle. They came back and moved and replanted the two Arbortvitae the next day. They spread the grass seed and straw and the mulch. They left the plants that were supposed to go back into the front bed in one of the side beds, missed several areas around the trees that needed to have been seeded, and one of the mulch rings was significantly off center around one of the trees. The spade edges around the planting beds were of uneven depth, which was both an aesthetic issue as well as a functional one (in terms of being able to evenly mow the lawn up to the edge of the beds). The Maple tree needed to be pruned to correct some early-growth bad habits that should have been obvious when they planted it. They corrected all the issues the day after I notified them. Accuracy: C; Responsiveness: A.
All in all, I am satisfied with the end result. The work was completed when I had been expecting. I would like to have had fewer issues along the way, but Micah had his crew addressed every issue I reported promptly and without any push-back. I have very high standards and am a tough grader, so don't take my giving Dean Landscaping mostly B's to be a negative. I would use them again, but I would insist on a detailed diagram showing all borders and edges and exactly which plants were to end up in which locations, and specifying details such as the depth of the borders to reduce the change for misunderstandings and mistakes.

FAQs for asphalt paving installation projects in Marion, OH

Most driveways wrap up in roughly a week. Allow two to three days for installation, followed by an additional two to three days for the surface to cure. Concrete and asphalt follow this timeline, whereas a gravel job often finishes more quickly. Laying out the schedule upfront makes it easier to plan your week and your budget.

Sealer prevents water, salt, and UV rays from damaging the surface. Apply a fresh coat every one to three years, and you’ll slow down the growth of cracks, avoid pricey repairs, and keep the driveway looking sharp. A local professional can handle the job efficiently and ensure even coverage.

Material is the significant driver when it comes to the lifespan of a driveway. Asphalt stays strong for about 20 years, concrete lasts 30 to 40 years, and paver stones can last 50 to 100 years because you can swap out damaged bricks. With regular top-ups, a gravel drive can also reach the century mark. Knowing these timelines helps you map out long-term maintenance and replacement costs.

Repaving strips everything down and starts fresh, letting you change the layout or improve drainage before pouring new material. Resurfacing, on the other hand, adds a top layer over a solid base, giving you a facelift without the need for a complete demolition. Go with repaving when the base is failing; choose resurfacing when the structure is sound and you just need a new surface.
