Customers say: Quick response

"We are in the process of building a home in Powhatan, VA. We recently had the best professional experience with Bobby from Coastal Landscape Construction! This was not an easy job to clear about 2 acres, put in a long drive way and work in challenging cold and wet weather. Bobby is an up and coming young professional and knows exactly how to plan and achieve the end goal. Bobby was always on time, communicated daily and effectively, planned the land clearing perfectly and his prices are competitive but extremely reasonable. If you want or need any construction work completed right, you MUST use Bobby from Coastal Landscape Construction! Bobby earned a 10/10 perfect review from us and we will be using him again during our home building process! His business phone number is 804-441-1768, serving Powhatan, Midlothian and Richmond VA area."

Black Top Sealing is a family owned and operated business committed to giving you the best service to maintain your asphalt driveway so you do not have to spend money on replacing it. \nSealcoating helps to eliminate the intrusion of water, sunlight, and chemical spills. It seals the asphalt to prevent evaporation of the liquid asphalt that binds the pavement together. This helps to prevent the asphalt from becoming brittle, cracking, and eroding. The cost of replacing asphalt is seven times what it would cost to maintain the original asphalt. This can amount to thousands of dollars, even for small a driveway.

"He told us he would be sending a receipt and warranty after completing the work 6/23/2020. He said he would come back and seal it in a few months. We were told not to drive on the driveway for 3 days. We waited a couple of days longer and when we tried to put our travel trailer back in the drive way our truck made ruts. Part of the paved area washed off at the ditch edge. He said he would come back and fix this however we have had great difficulty getting in contact with him. He does not return phone messages or text messages. He has not sealed the driveway as promised and we have not received the receipt or warranty he promised to send us. After calling and texting numerous times he has not responded. His phone message mailbox is often full or the message says you are calling "Florida Paving". He does not honor his promises and can not be relied on to complete the job after he is paid."

"John Simpson arrived to review all the work I needed done. On the exterior there were several pieces of siding that had to be replaced, windowsills that had rotted and wood trim that rotted, interior trim that had to be replaced and a ceiling that had to be repaired after a heat pump leak. John provided a written estimate after our review and the estimate was extremely reasonable. We scheduled the work and he arrived on the date and time he promised. He and his team got right to work and all were extremely personable yet very professional. I couldn't be happier with the work that he did. You can't see any difference in the replaced siding and he matched all the paint perfectly. The interior work was absolutely flawless. I am preparing to sell my house and once I'm in my new place I intend to have him do the work I'll need there too. He delivered everything he promised."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Mechanicsville, VA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
